Staff Shop is proud to partner with Tempo Toronto, Canada’s first WNBA team, to recruit an organized, proactive, and team-oriented Mascot Handler to join the Live Entertainment and Game Presentation team.
The Mascot Handler plays an essential behind-the-scenes role in delivering fun, safe, and high-energy performances at games, community events, and special appearances. Working closely with the team Mascot, you will help coordinate logistics, manage props and costume preparation, and support interactive fan moments that bring excitement to every Tempo event.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced live event environment, enjoys being part of the action behind the scenes, and wants to contribute to memorable fan experiences.
Please note: The Mascot Handler will be responsible for attending all home games and select community events.
Key ResponsibilitiesMascot Support
- Assist the Mascot in safely navigating the arena during game days, promotions, and fan interactions.
- Ensure the mascot costume is fully prepared for performances, including proper fitting, cooling systems, and accessories.
- Support in-game promotions, skits, and choreographed routines by providing cues, props, and coordination.
- Transport and maintain mascot costumes, props, and equipment for all appearances.
- Serve as a liaison between the mascot and event organizers to ensure a smooth performance flow.
Event Coordination
- Track the mascot schedule and ensure punctual arrival for games, appearances, and community events.
- Organize storage, packing, and transportation of costume components and props.
- Provide feedback to the game presentation team to enhance mascot performances and fan engagement strategies.
- Support crowd engagement and assist with energizing fans during games and events when required.
Safety & Crowd Awareness
- Monitor crowd and event conditions to maintain performer safety at all times.
- Maintain situational awareness during mascot interactions with fans and staff.
- Monitor the mascot performer’s health and stamina, ensuring hydration and appropriate breaks.
- Assist with crowd control when needed in high-traffic areas or during promotional activities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to support the Mascot during physical performances including standing, walking, running, and navigating stairs for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and manage costume components and props (up to 50 lbs).
- Comfortable working in crowded, high-energy environments for extended periods.
Qualifications
- Previous experience working as a Mascot Handler, event staff, promotions staff, or security is preferred.
- Highly energetic individual who can bring enthusiasm and positive energy to every Tempo event.
- Strong understanding of game presentation or live event operations is an asset.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and after hours during the Tempo season.
- Ability to travel across Canada for select national events when required.
