National Women's Soccer League
Full-time
On-site
New York City, New York, United States
$195,000 - $250,000 USD yearly
Professional Sports, Soccer, VP, Social & Digital Media

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is the premier professional women's soccer league, currently featuring 14 teams (soon expanding to 16) and more than 300 of the world's top players. Now in its 13th season, the NWSL is in the midst of an unprecedented growth phase, with 2024 attendance exceeding 2 million for the first time and viewership across its broadcast partners - Amazon, CBS, ESPN, and Scripps - surging to over 17 million, up 285% year over year.

As valuations rise and fan engagement deepens, the NWSL is redefining what's possible for women's sports in both the business and cultural landscape. With an expanding presence across global markets and growing relevance in pop culture, the NWSL is poised for even greater success-and marketing will be a central driver of that momentum.

Position Description:

The VP, Digital will serve as the strategic and operational business leader across the league's digital portfolio, both consumer-facing and B2B - including in-game technology (VAR, MSR, event data), product roadmaps for both internal and partner-driven tech transformations (e.g., cloud migration, tracking data), betting/data infrastructure, and partnering closely with marketing leadership on overseeing consumer-facing digital surfaces (website, mobile app, NWSL+).

This role will work in close partnership with the Sr Director of Analytics and the Sr Director of Growth Marketing to support and implement their respective strategies.

This role will also take a collective-wide (league office + clubs) view of digital transformation, and advise club leadership as they develop and implement digital strategies, while building towards a broader league-wide approach to tech infrastructure and digital-first fan engagement.

The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record of building and implementing digital strategies that are scalable, accretive to internal efficiency, and that drive improved customer journeys. A deep belief in the cultural and commercial potential of women's sports will be essential.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategic leadership & digital innovation

  • Develop and execute a forward-looking digital innovation strategy that supports business growth, audience expansion, and internal league office and collective-wide efficiency.
  • Develop product roadmaps for both internal and partner-driven tech transformations (e.g., in-game technology, contract management systems, cloud migration, tracking data, betting/data infrastructure, wearables) and oversee development of these roadmaps through partner, vendor and internal resources. Identify and vet vendors; make recommendations at both the league-office and collective-wide (league + clubs) level.
  • Identify opportunities for high-impact, tech-forward partnerships with global brands, partnering closely with the business development and strategy/solutions team to inform pitch strategy and proposed implementation.

Consumer-facing digital surfaces

  • Partner closely with marketing leadership to oversee the league's multi-platform consumer-facing surfaces, including web, mobile and NWSL+ (streaming).
  • Develop an integrated approach to the role of those digital platforms in the overarching fan engagement strategy, working closely with the Sr Director of Growth Marketing and other marketing leadership.
  • Partner with and support internal marketing and broadcast leadership in developing and positioning NWSL+ within the league's broader media portfolio.

Team collaboration

  • Spearhead a culture of digital innovation, building creative solutions that connect to overarching league positioning, brand growth, and driving business goals.
  • Work cross-functionally as an "intrapreneur", leading via influence, positioning yourself as a key collaborator across the business.
  • Collaborate across the executive team and league departments to ensure alignment between digital innovation objectives and long-term league vision.
  • Actively participate as a member of the Office of League Transformation Leadership team, reporting to the COO.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years of digital leadership, in high-growth, rapidly changing environments, especially as a founder/early stage employee, or "intrapreneur" who is comfortable building with limited resources and creating a case for scale.
  • You're not afraid to roll up your sleeves - you're comfortable pulling and analyzing your own data, building your own roadmaps - and may occasionally hop in to code (preferred not required)
  • Adept at using data and market intelligence to guide strategy and roadmap development
  • Can flex between product strategy and technical guidance, interfacing fluently with business/sporting leaders, as well as technical resources both internal and external.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, lead via influence, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build trust, inspire action, and influence at the highest levels.
  • Sports, media, entertainment, and/or consumer experience a plus but not required.
  • Deep belief in the power of women's sports and a commitment to advancing equity, access, and representation.
  • Must be able to work in person at the New York office a minimum of three (3) days a week.

Salary: $195,000.00 -250,000.00

NWSL observes a hybrid work schedule of three working days in the physical office and two remote working days.
