Job Summary: The Program Specialist, Player and Coach Development plays a vital role in ensuring that SCGA Junior Golf Foundation delivers high-quality, developmentally appropriate golf instruction across all program locations. This position focuses on training and supporting part-time coaches, leading curriculum development, overseeing golf assessments, managing the equipment fitting program, and serving as a go-to golf expert for the team and the community. This position also supports various communities in implementing youth development and other training initiatives. The Program Specialist will work closely with staff and volunteers in the field, contributing to the development of a consistent and impactful golf and youth development experience for all participants.
What You’ll Do:
Coach Development & Training
- Train and support coaches in golf instruction and positive youth development strategies.
- Provide ongoing, in-person observation and feedback in the field to ensure instructional quality and alignment with organizational values.
- Lead developmental cohorts for coach advancement
- Collaborate with managers to recruit qualified coaches and contribute to creating a supportive environment that promotes coach retention.
Equipment Fitting Program Management
- Oversee the SCGA Junior equipment fitting program, ensuring accurate data collection, inventory tracking, and strong relationships with manufacturers and vendors.
- Train staff across the organization on equipment fitting processes and standards.
- Host regular training sessions on equipment fitting and provide support and feedback at fitting sessions.
Golf Instruction
- Provide individual lessons to junior golfers and support staff development in delivering personalized instruction.
- Provide feedback to other instructors and coaches on instruction.
- Supports practices at all levels of programming as needed and regularly drops in to classes across all communities to demonstrate instruction/coaching best practices.
Golf Assessments
- Develop, maintain, and refine golf skill assessments to ensure they effectively track participant development.
- Train staff to administer assessments consistently and accurately across all locations.
Volunteer Engagement
- Host, onboard, and train volunteers in support roles throughout the program, ensuring they are equipped to contribute meaningfully to participant success.
Curriculum Development & Expertise
- Serve as the organization’s golf subject matter expert, leading curriculum development and instructional strategies.
- Develop and implement structured, age-appropriate golf lesson plans and progression tracks.
Girls Golf Program Management
- Lead and manage the SCGA Junior Girls Golf program, overseeing its growth, development, and execution across all sites; ensure accurate data tracking, coordinate events, provide program support, and manage volunteer engagement specific to girls’ golf initiatives.
The starting hourly rate for this role is $26/hour.
What You’ll Need:
- 2+ years of experience coaching youth in golf settings.
- 2+ years of high-level golf coaching experience.
- Strong knowledge of golf instruction and youth development principles.
- Experience working with volunteers or managing youth-serving programs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead trainings and support adult learners.
- Experience managing programs or systems, including data tracking and process improvement.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as required by programming.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- 2+ years of high-level golf playing experience, preferred.
- PGA, LPGA, or TPI certification or equivalent golf instruction credential, preferred.
- Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, or be on a golf course in outdoor environments.
- Travel to program sites and off-site meetings is required.
