Hammond, Indiana, The Position
The head coach is responsible for leading the women’s basketball program, including, but not limited to, the following duties: direct daily practice; coach during game competition; recruit prospective student-athletes; construct competitive schedule; supervise team travel; enforce applicable NCAA rules; monitor student-athlete academic success; manage team budget; assist Director of Athletics with public relations and fundraising activities; supervise assistant coach; and direct summer camps.

Purdue Northwest Athletics consists of 530 student-athletes and 23 sports and is a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Intercollegiate athletic teams are fielded in baseball, men’s and women's basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, esports, women’s flag football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s ice hockey, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s track & field, softball, stunt, and women’s volleyball. Esports is a member of the Midwest Esports Conference. The institution has developed new ice hockey, baseball, basketball, esports, softball, soccer, and tennis facilities. The department emphasizes success both athletically and academically. Since moving to NCAA DII, athletics have won 20 championships between men’s soccer, ice hockey, men’s golf, track and field, and esports. Academically, the student-athletes collectively have held a 3.0 GPA over the last 20 semesters with an impressive 83% graduation rate. The department retains student-athletes at an exemplary 86% rate. Required Qualifications & Core Competencies
This position requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in sports management, physical education, education, or fitness. Two years of coaching experience in a professional, college, or high school is required. The core competencies of the ideal candidate include, but are not limited to:
Must have strong team-building and management skills;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to coordinate collaborative efforts;
Demonstrated experience in program development, management, and leadership;
Ability to interact with members of the public and media;
Ability to supervise regular and temporary staff;
Ability to work across academic/administrative departments in a cooperative manner;
Understanding of the student-athletes’ commitment to academics; and
Knowledge of rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and conference should be maintained, reviewed, and practiced, ensuring compliance relative to those applicable duties.
