Position Summary
The Communications & Public Relations Intern will play an integral role in supporting the Orlando Valkyries’ media and communications efforts, gaining hands-on experience within the press operations of a professional sports organization. Working closely with the Manager of Communications & Public Relations, this intern will contribute to media relations, editorial content, and storytelling initiatives that grow the Valkyries’ brand and deepen engagement with fans, journalists, and the broader community. This position is ideal for a student with strong writing skills and a passion for sports journalism and public relations.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Communications
• Support the development and distribution of communications materials including match notes, press releases, and Player of the Week nominations.
• Coordinate the creation and distribution of season-long and single-game media credentials for press, broadcasters, and visiting teams.
• Help manage and update the credential request system and maintain accurate records within the media database.
• Provide event-day support for media relations operations, including press box management and interview room logistics.
• Assist with building and maintaining media contact lists and press distribution databases.
Editorial Content & Writing
• Draft and edit post-match recaps and summaries for distribution and internal use.
• Research and write feature stories highlighting players, coaches, and organizational initiatives.
• Contribute to the creation of game day emails and media packets with essential team and match information.
• Record, transcribe, edit, and archive post-match interviews and player quotes.
Administrative & Operational Support
• Maintain organized archives of press releases, media clips, and communications materials.
• Track media coverage and compile clip reports for internal stakeholders.
• Assist with additional communications and public relations projects as assigned.
Team Culture & Collaboration
• Contribute to a positive and energetic office environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues across departments to support team-wide initiatives.

Qualifications
• Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Sports Management, or a related field.
• Strong writing skills with demonstrated experience in editorial content, press releases, or journalism.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Passion for volleyball, sports journalism, and storytelling.
Education & Experience
• Currently working toward a degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• Knowledge of volleyball is preferred but not required.
• Prior experience in media relations, sports journalism, or PR is preferred.
