Position Title:                        Assistant Coach, Varsity Girls Volleyball                                                               

Department:                          Prep

Reports To:                            Assistant Principal, Athletics and Girls Athletic Director

FLSA Classification:            Non-exempt

FTE (Full-Time Equivalent): Seasonal

Schedule of Duties:              Seasonal

Salary:                                    $17.50-$27.50/ hr

Position Purpose:                The Varsity Assistant Coach supports the Sacred Heart Prep Girls Volleyball program in alignment with the Mission of the School and its Goals and Criteria. This role contributes to the development of varsity student-athletes and supports a competitive, high-level program that emphasizes excellence, accountability, and a positive student-athlete experience.

Specific Expectations for part-time, non-exempt Coaches, Administrators and Staff in the Prep Athletic Department: In addition to duties and essential job functions listed in job descriptions, the following responsibilities are required or encouraged of all part-time, non-exempt employees in the Prep Athletics Department:

  • Seasonal Sports Parents Meetings (required)
  • Coaches Seasonal Workshops (required)
  • All-School Masses and Espacios (welcome)
  • Graduation and Convocation (welcome)
  • Professional development as required by your supervisor, work beyond your regular hours when required by your supervisor, and attendance at, or participation in, mandatory meetings and/or events as directed by your supervisor.
  • All non-exempt employees are required to accurately track their time and paid time-off in the payroll system.

All employees will be paid appropriately and according to current law. If staff are required to work outside of regular work schedule, permission to work outside of the regular work schedule is required; non-exempt employees will receive overtime pay, as eligible.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supports the Head Coach in the instruction and development of varsity student-athletes in volleyball-specific skills, including serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking, and team defensive systems
  • Assists in the implementation of advanced team systems, match strategy, scouting preparation, and in-match adjustments
  • Leads, through words and actions, in promoting sportsmanship, accountability, discipline, resilience, and team culture
  • Assists in the supervision and execution of all varsity team activities, including practices, competitions, film sessions, and team travel
  • Supports the competitive readiness of the varsity program, including preparation, conditioning coordination, and performance expectations
  • Upholds and reinforces all Athletics Department, school, league (WBAL), and CIF/CCS policies and expectations
  • Supports the establishment and maintenance of varsity program standards, culture, and accountability
  • Communicates effectively with student-athletes, families, and staff in alignment with Athletics Department protocols
  • Assists in program logistics, including equipment management, uniforms, scouting materials, and match operations
  • Demonstrates reliability, organization, and a high level of professionalism in all responsibilities
  • Maintains a commitment to ongoing professional growth and staying current with volleyball strategies and best practices
  • Supports program alignment across all levels (Varsity, JV, Frosh) and contributes to the overall Athletics Department culture

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the educational philosophy of Sacred Heart Schools and its Goals and Criteria
  • Previous coaching experience in volleyball, preferably at the high school varsity and/or club level
  • Strong understanding of advanced volleyball systems, strategies, and competitive preparation
  • Ability to contribute to a high-level, performance-oriented team environment
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching staff and school environment
  • Experience in an independent school setting preferred

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, competitive environment with high expectations
  • Work primarily in indoor gym environments with occasional off-site competition
  • Ability to demonstrate volleyball skills, including movement, ball handling, and drill participation
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (20–50 lbs), including nets, ball carts, and training equipment
