Kalamazoo, Michigan, WMU is hiring an immediate non-exempt assistant women’s tennis coach to effectively teach, prepare, positively motivate and mentor student-athletes for Academic, Athletics and Life successes. This is a 12-month position, with the option to coach camps/clinics in the summers and assist in running tournaments.

Teaching/Coaching: Effectively prepare players for each game and each season with dedication so as to assist the student-athletes to attain their maximum level of athletic performance and to successfully compete against major college competition. Effectively teach, mentor and foster student-athletes in key areas such as mental wellness, time management, team work and social interaction abilities so as to prepare student-athletes for academic and life success.

Preparing for Competition: Using game/practice film, practice session evaluations, strength & conditioning session evaluations, statistical analysis and other sport specific industry best practices, prepare lesson (practice) plans to improve student-athletes knowledge base and skill set resulting in improved performance.

Recruiting: Identify, evaluate, scout, recruit, and interview prospective student-athletes and their parents/guardians/stakeholders in an effort to secure the best possible student-athletes for the Program and University.

Administrative Duties: Maintain strict adherence to University, Conference and NCAA rules.in effectively performing administrative duties. Sample administrative duties might include: fundraising activities, budget management, team travel planning, equipment coordination, NCAA CARA (Countable athletic related activities) documentation, recruiting scheduling and trip planning, University housing/meal plan services, the arrangement of pre-season training camp details and other duties of similar administrative capacity to these example duties. Be able to play and train players in practice. Either needs to know how to string racquets, or is willing to learn how to string. Moderate work includes occasionally working in difficult positions or with physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials from 25 to 50 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving materials greater than 50 pounds. When teaching the team, practice and games may be outside dependent upon weather conditions.

Qualifications Minimum: • Bachelor’s degree • 1 year of collegiate tennis playing experience

Preferred • NCAA tennis collegiate coaching experience • Experience with using video breakdown, analysis, and analytics to improve team performance. • Stringing experience Requirements • Valid drivers license • Cleared background check • Must be able to travel/work on weekends • Working outside normal business hours
