THE ROLE:
The Vice President - Finance for RAJ Sports Management, owners of the Portland Thorns of the NWSL and the Portland Fire of the WNBA, is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, financial planning and analysis, and ensuring compliance with league regulations, while working closely with the team's leadership to achieve the Company’s goals. .
WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO:
THE ROLE:
The Vice President - Finance for RAJ Sports Management, owners of the Portland Thorns of the NWSL and the Portland Fire of the WNBA, is responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, financial planning and analysis, and ensuring compliance with league regulations, while working closely with the team's leadership to achieve the Company’s goals. .
WHAT YOU’LL BE UP TO:
Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting
- Develop and manage comprehensive annual budgets for all team operations, including player salaries, stadium costs, marketing, and administrative expenses.
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify revenue growth opportunities, cost reduction strategies, and potential risks.
- Oversight and consolidation of multiple businesses operating under the Raj Sports umbrella.
- Assist in the evaluation of new business opportunities.
- Oversight of monthly, quarterly and annual internal financial reporting requirements.
- Ensure proper and timely completion of required audits and tax filings.
- Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for the team ownership, senior management, and league officials.
Revenue Management
- Financial oversight of ticket sales, sponsorships, merchandise sales, and other revenue streams.
- Ensure proper internal controls and long-range planning to minimize risk to revenue streams.
Cost Management
- Monitor and control expenses across all departments, including player salaries, travel, facility maintenance, and administrative costs.
- Identify cost-saving initiatives and implement strategies to optimize spending.
Capital Management
- Manage cash flow and working capital requirements.
- Manage organizational debt arrangements. Manage fixed assets, including financial oversight of the new performance center
- Manage all banking relationships
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to all league financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Implement robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks and detect potential fraud.
- Assist in the management of the Company-wide insurance programs
Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the Company leadership to develop long-term business plans aligned with the Company’s overall vision and goals.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to inform key business decisions.
WHAT IT TAKES:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field with an MBA or CPA preferred.
- Extensive experience in financial management, preferably within the sports industry.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to effectively convey complex financial information to stakeholders.
- Leadership abilities to manage a finance team and collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments.
- Understanding of sports league regulations and labor agreements.
