Description

The Bullis School Athletic Department is looking to hire a qualified Varsity Assistant Swimming Coach for our co-ed program. Working closely with the Varsity Head Coach, this position helps foster a positive, competitive environment in alignment with Bullis School’s mission and values, while ensuring compliance with Independent School League (ISL) standards.

 

Schedule: Practices are held Monday through Friday, 3:30–5:00 PM. There are often competitions on the weekends. Please note our swim program trains off-campus at Lakewood Country Club. You may be asked to travel with the team or drive an activity bus to and from practice. All swim meets are off-campus in Maryland, DC, and Virginia.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

 

• Assist in designing and implementing all aspects of the swimming program for grades 9–12, including practice planning, game preparation, and skill development.

• Support communication with student-athletes regarding weekly schedules, early dismissals, and academic responsibilities.

• Attend all required coaching meetings before, during, and after the season.

• Collaborate with the Varsity Head Coach to plan off-season training, clinics, and workouts within ISL regulations.

• Assist in managing program equipment, uniforms, and facility usage to ensure organization, cleanliness, and readiness.

• Maintain consistent communication with the Head Varsity  Coach and Athletic Director(s), providing feedback and recommendations for program improvement.

• Perform any additional responsibilities related to the swimming program as assigned by the Head Varsity Swimming Coach.

 

Experience

Required:

• Prior successful experience coaching swim, preferably at the high school or collegiate level

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

• Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor student-athletes

• Deep understanding of the sport, with a focus on skill development and strategic gameplay

• CPR/First Aid and concussion training certification (or willingness to obtain)

• Must be available for regular season and postseason play (November–February)

 

Preferred:

• Collegiate playing or coaching experience

• Experience coaching club swim

• Experience working in independent schools or with student-athletes in competitive academic environments

• Experience coaching or mentoring at the Upper School level

• Interest in being involved with the full program, including Middle School swimming

• Preferred certified lifeguard, safe sport, and USA swimming coach

• Will accept a  Montgomery County Summer Swim League certified coach

 

This is a stipend position paid at the end of the season in the amount of $2,150 - $2,625
