The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) is seeking a strategic and execution-focused Senior Director of Team Business Operations to lead the League’s efforts to drive fan growth, revenue, and brand impact across all eight PWHL markets. This role will serve as a central business leader, working directly with the Team Business Directors to shape and execute local strategies across marketing, ticketing, grassroots engagement, community programs, PR, communications, and game day experience.
As the PWHL continues to scale, this position will play a pivotal role in embedding best practices, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making throughout the league, while also supporting innovation and local relevance.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Team Support
  • Lead and mentor Team Business Directors, supporting them in the development and execution of market-level strategies and annual business plans.
  • Serve as the primary League-side business partner to each team, ensuring alignment with broader league goals while championing local authenticity.
Revenue Growth & Fan Development
  • In conjunction with the VP, Ticket Sales, help drive the creation and execution of initiatives to grow ticket sales (season, group, and single-game), build fan loyalty, grow the team databases and expand grassroots outreach.
  • Collaborate with league marketing, partnerships, broadcast, public relations, digital content teams and hockey operations to activate campaigns that drive ticketing and fan engagement in local markets.
Operational Excellence
  • Drive consistency and efficiency in team-level operations, including CRM systems, sales pipelines, digital and community marketing, in-arena experience, and promotional planning.
  • Develop and maintain performance benchmarks across teams, including KPIs for revenue, attendance, fan growth, and community impact.
  • Ensure successful stories and ideas are shared amongst all teams
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Serve as a liaison between teams and League departments (e.g., communications, content, partnerships, events, and game operations) to ensure cohesive execution.
  • Partner with analytics and insights teams to gather and disseminate actionable data to teams, enabling local experimentation and leaguewide learning.
  • Work with teams to create action plans against insights that lead to team business growth against all KPI’s.
League Events & Knowledge Sharing
  • Help plan and lead League workshops, summits, and team business reviews.
  • Identify and elevate success stories, sharing best practices across teams and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assist team directors for all Takeover Tour games as needed
  • Assist in any league events as directed
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience in professional sports, live entertainment, or related industries, including leadership roles in team business operations, marketing, ticketing, or consulting.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor cross-functional business teams, ideally across multiple markets.
  • Experience driving fan engagement and ticket revenue through marketing strategy, grassroots development, and customer acquisition.
  • Deep understanding of operational structures in team-based leagues, with an eye toward both innovation and scalable execution.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence across senior stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, startup-like environment.
Salary for this role is : $150,000-$175,000 USD / $180,000-$200,000 CAN Equivalent
