The Los Angeles Sparks are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Part-Time Registered Dietitian to join the Health and Performance Department. This seasonal role is central to supporting athlete health, performance, recovery, and overall wellness throughout the 2026 WNBA season.
The Registered Dietitian will lead evidence-based sports nutrition initiatives, manage performance fueling strategies, oversee supplement protocols, and collaborate across disciplines to optimize player readiness and availability. This position reports to the Director of Health & Performance and works closely with the multidisciplinary performance team.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sports Nutrition and Performance Support
- Provide comprehensive sports nutrition services to professional athletes, emphasizing performance optimization, recovery, hydration, body composition, and overall health
- Develop individualized fueling and hydration strategies for practices and competition
- Create and implement pregame and postgame nutrition protocols
- Deliver evidence-based nutrition education sessions to athletes and performance staff
- Support in-season and offseason nutrition planning initiatives
Supplement Management
- Oversee and manage the team supplement program, including product evaluation and selection
- Provide athlete education and ensure compliance, safety, and quality assurance
- Manage inventory tracking and documentation
- Ensure supplement protocols align with league policies and best-practice standards
Game and Travel Nutrition Operations
- Set up and manage fueling stations for practices and home games
- Develop and execute pregame fueling strategies
- Coordinate postgame recovery meals for home games
- Collaborate with hotels, catering partners, and team operations staff to coordinate nutrition logistics during team travel
- Support nutrition operations throughout training camp, regular season, and postseason
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with athletic trainers, physical therapists, strength coaches, sports scientist, and coaching staff to align nutrition strategies with performance and recovery goals
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to support player-centered decision-making
- Communicate sport nutrition strategies in clear, athlete-friendly language when appropriate
- Maintain proactive and professional communication with internal staff and external vendors
Education and Mentorship
- Supervise and mentor a dietetic student, providing structured education and applied learning experiences
- Stay current with emerging research and trends in sports nutrition and performance fueling
- Educate Sparks athletes and staff on nutrition initiatives and best practices
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of sports supplements, performance fueling, hydration, and travel nutrition
- Ability to translate scientific research into practical, athlete-centered strategies
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong problem-solving ability
- Adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced professional sports environment.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Certification
- Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field
- Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential in good standing
- Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred
Experience
- Minimum 2–3 years of applied experience in collegiate or professional sports
- Experience working with elite or professional athletes preferred
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary high-performance team
POSITION DETAILS:
- Seasonal, part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week
- Schedule varies based on practice calendar, game schedule, and team travel
- Evening, weekend, and travel availability required during the WNBA season
- Location: Los Angeles, CA.
This is a part-time/seasonal, non-exempt position compensated at $30-$35 per hour
