About the WNBA

The Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) is the premier professional women’s basketball league and a global leader in advancing women in sports, business, and culture. As we continue to expand our reach and impact, we’re investing in how data and design tell the story of women’s sports — inspiring fans, partners, and stakeholders through powerful visuals and insight-driven storytelling.

Joining the WNBA means becoming part of a team that is passionate about growth, innovation, and shaping the future of sport.

Position Summary

The Data Visualization & Graphic Design (Project Employee) will design and produce compelling, data-driven visuals that bring the WNBA’s stories to life — from fan intelligence dashboards and sponsorship reports to league growth presentations and digital storytelling.

This role sits at the intersection of data, storytelling, and visual communication, translating analytics into clear, engaging, and visually impactful narratives. Working closely with the Data Strategy, Marketing, and Business Intelligence teams, the designer will turn complex insights into accessible visuals that inform decision-making and enhance the league’s storytelling across internal and external audiences.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Design data visualizations, infographics, and presentation graphics that clearly communicate insights about the league, teams, and fans
  • Support cross-functional analysis by identifying trends and creating visuals that drive understanding and decision-making
  • Create visual systems, templates, and design guidelines to ensure consistency across data-driven outputs
  • Develop visuals for executive presentations, internal dashboards, sponsor deliverables, and league growth reporting
  • Balance aesthetic quality, data accuracy, and clarity — ensuring all visuals are both beautiful and analytically sound
  • Support storytelling through annotated visuals, clear labeling, and purposeful use of color, typography, and hierarchy
  • Maintain alignment with WNBA brand guidelines and collaborate with the league’s Creative Services team to ensure consistent tone and style
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work on tight timelines
  • Stay current on trends in data visualization, sports design, and creative communication

Required Education/Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Information Design, Data Visualization, Visual Communication, or related field
  • 3+ years of professional design experience with demonstrated expertise in data visualization, information design, or motion/infographic storytelling

Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:

  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Figma or similar design tools
  • Experience working with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Flourish, Datawrapper, or D3.js)
  • Deep understanding of visual hierarchy, typography, color, and composition
  • Comfort working with data (spreadsheets, CSVs, dashboards) and collaborating with analysts
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex information visually and narratively
  • Portfolio showcasing a range of data visualization and infographic work
  • Experience designing for sports, media, or entertainment brands preferred
  • Knowledge of women’s sports metrics and fan analytics a plus
  • Familiarity with motion design, geospatial visualization, or interactive web graphics preferred
  • Understanding of accessibility principles for digital and visual content preferred

Salary Range:

$3,846 - $4,615 Bi-Weekly
