Join the newest addition to the WNBA family as we bring professional women’s basketball to Canada! The Toronto Tempo is the WNBA’s 14th franchise and first Canadian team set to tip off in May. We are seeking a talented and driven Physiotherapist to join our Health & Performance team, reporting to the Director, Health & Performance from March to October 2026.

Job Summary:

The Physiotherapist will primarily be responsible for providing progressive, data-informed short- and long-term rehabilitation services to the Tempo team. This role will work alongside Health & Performance colleagues to provide holistic care to all Tempo players. The Physiotherapist will primarily work out of our office and facilities located in Toronto. Moderate travel within North America with the Tempo team may be required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Player Injury Rehabilitation Services & Strategy

  • Lead the management and rehabilitation of post-injury care for Tempo players.
  • Develop individual treatment plans and programs tailored to each Tempo player with precision and care.
  • Collaborate with the team’s athletic trainers, team physicians, strength and conditioning coaches, mental health & performance providers, sport scientists, dietitians, and coaching staff to develop and continually upgrade return to play strategies and practices.
  • Ensure consistent rehab standards and philosophy are maintained across the Health & Performance team.
  • Utilize subjective and objective measures and up-to-date best practices.
  • Advise the performance team on new technologies, techniques, treatments and modalities for proper care of players.
  • Regularly communicate rehab updates to Head Athletic Trainer and Director of health & Performance.
  • As necessary, accompany players to medical appointments.

Compliance & Documentation Management

  • Ensure player care activities are within guidelines mandated by professional license(s) and the WNBA league.
  • Document and update all communications and health services provided to athletes through team’s injury management system with confidentiality.
  • Ensure confidential health, medical, and insurance records are compliant with WNBA and HIPAA requirements.
  • Collaborate with Head Athletic Trainer to provide thorough documentation of all injuries/illnesses including daily notes, physician notes, and other required documentation and reporting in the league mandated Electronic Medical Records system.
  • Work with Head Athletic Trainer to report and manage player workman's compensation claims.

Team Management

  • Assist Head Athletic Trainer with medical budgets and processes.
  • Contribute to a team environment that promotes trust, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
  • Assist Health & Performance colleagues with basic administrative duties including ordering training room supplies, training room cleaning duties, hydrotherapy room maintenance, and maintenance of medical equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others.
  • Required to lift up to 45 kg (100 lbs) of equipment, along with bending, reaching, and throwing items.
  • Required to lift and position patients for examination, including helping them on and off tables.
  • Ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • University degree in Physiotherapy or a related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a physiotherapist with elite athletes required.
  • Licensed/Certified in and in good standing to practice as a physiotherapist in Ontario required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Must be trained and hold a current certification in at least one of the following: Basic Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life Support.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel globally for weeks at a time.

The salary range for the Physiotherapist (seasonal) role is between $55,000 - $58,000 CAD.
