Join the newest addition to the WNBA family as we bring professional women’s basketball to Canada! The Toronto Tempo is the WNBA’s 14th franchise and first Canadian team set to tip off in May. Our team is dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence both on and off the court. We are committed to empowering our players, engaging our fans, and making a positive impact in our community. We are seeking a talented and driven Massage Therapist (seasonal) to join our Health & Performance team, reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer from March to October 2026.

Job Summary:

The Massage Therapist supports the physical preparation, recovery, and availability of Tempo athletes through evidence-informed manual therapy and collaborative care. This role will work alongside Health & Performance colleagues to provide holistic care to all Tempo players. The Massage Therapist will primarily work out of our office and facilities located in Toronto, Ontario. Regular travel within North America with the Tempo team will be required throughout the season.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Player Care Services and Strategy

  • Provide pre-practice, post-practice, and game-day massage therapy to Tempo athletes.
  • Deliver individualized soft-tissue treatment plans aligned with athlete needs, workload, and injury status.
  • Assist with recovery strategies including travel recovery, load management, and return-to-play support.
  • Collaborate closely with Health & Performance staff to provide holistic care to all athletes.
  • Support training camp, regular season, playoffs, and team travel as required.

Compliance & Documentation Management

  • Ensure player care activities are within guidelines mandated by professional license(s) and the WNBA league.
  • Document all communications and health services provided to athletes through team’s injury management system.
  • Ensure confidential health, medical, and insurance records are compliant with WNBA and HIPAA requirements.
  • Collaborate with Head Athletic Trainer to provide thorough documentation of all injuries/illnesses including daily notes, physician notes, and other required documentation and reporting in the league mandated Electronic Medical Records system.

Team Management

  • Contribute to a team environment that promotes trust, professionalism, and respect for diversity.
  • Assist Health & Performance colleagues with basic administrative duties including ordering training room supplies, training room cleaning duties, hydrotherapy room maintenance and maintenance of medical equipment.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others.
  • Required to lift up to 45 kg (100 lbs) of equipment, along with bending, reaching, and throwing items.
  • Required to lift and position patients for examination, including helping them on and off tables.
  • Ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Licensed/Registered Massage Therapist in good standing (Ontario licensure required).
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience with high-level or professional athletes (basketball preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and sports-specific soft-tissue demands.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel globally for weeks at a time required.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build trust with athletes.

The salary range for the Massage Therapist (seasonal) role is between $40,000 - $45,000 CAD.
