Established in 2007, the Chicago Stars were a founding member of the former Women’s Professional Soccer and later became one of the original eight teams to form the National Women’s Soccer League in 2013. They are the longest continuously operating professional women’s soccer team in the United States. The Chicago Stars have made the playoffs in seven consecutive years, from 2015-2021, while also competing in three championship matches in as many years, including the 2019 and 2021 NWSL Championships and the 2020 Challenge Cup Championship.

Position Overview

This role owns the organization’s web presence and web infrastructure, with primary accountability over website management, development and optimization. The ideal candidate combines hands-on technical web skills with strategic thinking and a bias for action to drive measurable growth across owned digital channels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end management of the organization’s website, optimizing the user experience, performance and security 
  • Manage real-time updates across on dot com, microsites, etc. to ensure content is timely, relevant, and accurate
  • Responsible for creating web pages from the ground up using CMS templates, based on needs from across the organization (Commercial, Sport Development, Governance, etc.)
  • Implement proper site architecture, URL structure and navigation are set up to optimize SEO; manage Google Tag Manager and related advertising tracking infrastructure 
  • Document broken experiences, user-facing bugs and optimization recommendations to engineering counterparts
  • Define business requirements for the content team and work closely with the product and engineering teams to translate them to technology needs, then assist setting priorities, roadmap, and timelines
  • Support and collaborate with Marketing, Ticketing, and Partnership teams on email campaigns, paid social initiatives, and lead generation programs, including segmentation, automation, and customer journey design, to drive ticket sales, membership acquisition, and sponsor deliverables
  • Define and maintain audience segments, manage list hygiene, suppression rules and deliverability to maximize inbox placement and engagement rates
 
Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in digital content marketing or content management
  • Extensive enterprise Content Management System (CMS) experience (preferably Wordpress) with expertise in website authoring, collaboration, and administration tools
  • Strong front-end web skills including HTML, CSS and Javascript
  • Functional knowledge in digital asset management, including experience using a DAM tool
  • Proven SEO expertise and Google Analytics proficiency
  • Extensive experience with content organization, including website taxonomy, tag management tools (i.e., Google Tag Manager), and URL structures
  • Strong analytical skills to distill various data sources into coherent and actionable recommendations to drive revenue 
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana
  • Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience with email marketing, customer journeys and CRM
