Coaching at Lakeside High School

This position centers on the day-to-day experience of student athletes. The head volleyball coach sets clear expectations and creates a space where students can learn the game and grow more confident in themselves and their play. Much of the work is routine. Practices. Game nights. Conversations that help athletes reset and stay focused after a tough point or a rough match.

At Lakeside, coaching is connected to the broader school community. Athletes are expected to compete with confidence and respect the game. Coaches are trusted to lead in a way that challenges students while also supporting them as they develop.

This role is a good fit for someone who enjoys building a program through relationships and presence. The coach is relied on to set the tone, model sportsmanship, and help athletes leave the season with a stronger sense of who they are as teammates and competitors.

Salary: The salary range for the position is: Min.$4,745 to Max.$6,935. Salary placement will be at Step 0 of the Coaches Agreement unless documentation of experience is received per the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Collective Bargaining Agreement and Salary Schedules can be reviewed from the Human Resources page of the Nine Mile Falls School District www.9mile.org. Classified, Substitute staff that would be in an overtime situation (more than 40 hours per week in cumulative work hours) if they received this position, may not be eligible for this opening.

Nature and Scope of Position:  (1 or 2 sentence summary of position)

The Head Volleyball Coach provides overall leadership for the girls volleyball program at Lakeside High School. This role requires prior coaching experience at the secondary, collegiate, or club level, along with strong knowledge of the sport and its rules.

The position carries responsibility for the tone and operation of the program throughout the season. The coach is trusted to use sound judgment, maintain required certifications, and work in coordination with the Athletic Director to ensure the program runs safely and within WIAA requirements.

Primary Job Functions

  • Serve as Head Coach of the Lakeside High School Girls Volleyball program.
  • Plan and lead practices that focus on skill development, teamwork, and safe participation.
  • Prepare the team for interscholastic competition while reinforcing sportsmanship and respect for the game.
  • Provide clear instruction and feedback that helps student-athletes learn from mistakes and continue improving.
  • Establish team expectations and address conduct in a way that supports growth and accountability.
  • Supervise athletes during practices, games, and related activities with attention to safety and well-being.
  • Coordinate schedules, maintain required records, and complete program-related reporting as needed.
  • Oversee equipment use and inventory in coordination with the Athletic Director.
  • Communicate with students, families, and staff in a manner that reflects the role of athletics within the school community.
  • Support a program culture that encourages effort, teamwork, and pride in representing Lakeside High School.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Required Qualifications (Traits, Education, Experience, Training, physical requirements, etc.):

  1. First Aid/CPR Card
  2. WSP/FBI Fingerprint Clearance
  3. Be a High School Graduate or have completed a graduation equivalency diploma (GED) program.
  4. High school students may serve as middle school volunteer assistant coaches during the designated middle school season when under the direct supervision of the middle school coach. These high school students must meet WIAA coaches standards minimum requirements and hold a valid First Aid Certification and a valid CPR card.
  5. Ability to obtain required WIAA clock hours
  6. Successful experience in coaching basketball at the secondary, collegiate, or club level.
  7. Knowledge of effective and safe sport techniques.
  8. Great sportsmanship, positive relationships, and effective communication with students, families, and staff.

  3. Demonstrated ability to maintain and build a highly successful sports program.
