    Job Description
    Job Title: Girls Assistant Volleyball Coach
    Supervisor: Head Soccer Coach &  Athletics Director

    Job Summary
    Under the direct supervision of the Head Volleyball Coach and Activities/Athletic Director, this position is responsible for assisting with coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so they may achieve a high level of skill while developing discipline, sportsmanship, teamwork, and an appreciation for the game of volleyball. The Assistant Coach supports the head coach in organizing and leading the high school volleyball program by assisting with practices, instructing student-athletes in game fundamentals, strategies and techniques, supervising athletes, and coaching during competitions.

    Essential Duties

    1. Follows and upholds the rules, policies, and mission of Buena Vista High School and the Athletics Department.
    2. Follows and upholds all League and CHSAA procedures and guidelines.
    3. Assists the Head Coach in organizing and directing the Buena Vista High School Girls Volleyball program.
    4. Assists with planning and conducting practices, skill development, and team activities.
    5. Instructs student-athletes in the rules, fundamentals, strategies, and techniques of volleyball.
    6. Organizes and directs individual and small-group practice activities as assigned by the Head Coach.
    7. Assesses student-athlete performance and communicates observations to the Head Coach.
    8. Assists with determining game strategy and coaching during competitions.
    9. Supervises student-athletes during practices, travel, and competitions.
    10. Travels with the team to and from competitions as assigned.
    11. Follows established procedures set by the Certified Athletic Trainer regarding injuries and student safety.
    12. Assists with distributing, maintaining, and collecting uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
    13. Helps secure team storage areas, locker rooms, and facilities following practices and competitions.
    14. Assists with team functions including parent meetings, Parent Night, awards programs, banquets, and other athletic events.
    15. Supports off-season workouts and skill development opportunities as directed by the Head Coach.
    16. Models good sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct toward student-athletes, officials, coaches, parents, spectators, and the community.
    17. Supports multi-sport participation and models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
    18. Maintains confidentiality, demonstrates professionalism, and contributes to a positive team culture.
    19. Attends required coaches meetings, professional development opportunities, and coaching clinics.
    20. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.

    Qualifications

    • Complete a pre-employment background check
    • Previous volleyball coaching or playing experience preferred
    • Have exceptional leadership and communication skills
    • Obtain CHSAA Coaching Certification
    • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification
    • Current Concussion Management Training & Certification

    Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required) 
    Some experience as an assistant or head soccer coach at the youth, middle school or high school level.  Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.  Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.  Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents and students.

    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
    Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity, see and read printed material; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the phone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height; and to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.

    Compensation:  Starting base pay per the current coaching salary schedule ranging from $500-$3,000 depending on coaching needs
