Overview & Mission
William Jewell College competes in NCAA Division II and subscribes to the GLVC ethos of developing scholar‑athletes through a well‑balanced competition and academic environment. The Head Softball Coach leads the program in alignment with the College’s mission.
 
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Development
  • Provide vision and leadership for the William Jewell softball program, shaping culture, strategy, and competitive goals.
  • Direct all facets of the program: practice & game‑day strategy, skill development, sports performance, and team cohesion.
Recruiting & Scholarships
  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student‑athletes in collaboration with the Admissions and Financial Aid offices.
  • Recommend athletic scholarships in accordance with the College's policies and NCAA Division II scholarship limits
Compliance & Administration
  • Ensure adherence to NCAA Division II rules, GLVC regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Manage the team budget, logistical planning, travel arrangements, and purchasing within College guidelines.
Coaching & Player Development
  • Plan, implement, and supervise all practices, strength & conditioning, and individual player development plans.
  • Provide technical instruction, feedback, and mentorship to student-athletes.
Game Management
  • Oversee all aspects of game-day execution: lineup selection, in-game adjustments, scouting, and officiating liaison.
Academic & Personal Welfare Support
  • Monitor academic progress and encourage student-athlete success in and out of the classroom.
  • Support athletes’ personal growth and well-being through mentorship, team culture building, and academic accountability.
Community & Departmental Engagement
  • Represent the softball program in college and community outreach, fundraising, camps, and event coordination.
  • Collaborate with Athletic Department staff (such as performance, communication, sports medicine) to advance the overall student-athlete experience
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Significant coaching experience at the collegiate or high school level, preferably within NCAA softball.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division II & GLVC rules and coaching strategies.
Preferred
  • Proven track record in recruiting and retention in higher education athletics.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Commitment to the holistic mission of the College and ability to foster inclusive, high-character team culture.
