Lewiston, New York, JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Head Women's Basketball Coach coordinates all aspects of the operation of Niagara University's Division I Women's Basketball program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Supervise and lead all facets of the women's basketball program, including staff, coaches and student-athletes, under the regulations of the university, the NCAA and the MAAC;

Provide academic and personal support to student-athletes;

Instruct student-athletes in athletics matters;

Recruit student-athletes for women's basketball program;

Participate in fundraising activities for the benefit of the women's basketball program;

Responsible for administrative duties such as maintaining budget, scheduling, hire, lead and supervise personnel under his/her direction;

Assist in the promotion of the women's basketball team;

Serve as public figure for university, handling public speaking, personal appearance and media interview responsibilities;

Engage with on and off campus communities in order to build support for the women's basketball program;

Maintain confidentiality of information (including but not limited to: student and employee personal information, student grades, etc.), both during and after their employment with the University. Any question regarding the confidentiality of material, should be referred to the supervisor. Any violation shall subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Considered Essential Personnel whose physical presence is required on campus and must also be prepared to address those functions remotely (from off-campus) as needed when operations are restricted or the campus is closed.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

% of Time

50% Supervise and lead all facets of the women's basketball program; instruct student-athletes in methods and strategies. Follow and conform to NCAA rules and regulations.

25% Recruit student-athletes for women's basketball program.

10% Provide academic and personal support.

10% Maintain budget and other administrative duties, including fundraising. Consistently lead and supervise all employees who report to this position and write a minimum of one performance review annually for each employee at a time recommended by human resources.

5% Public appearances and media responsibilities.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Strong knowledge of basketball coaching techniques and the ability to effectively communicate those techniques to the student-athletes.

Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to use those techniques effectively for women's basketball programs.

Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays including both individual and group travel.

Ability to drive a personal or university vehicle for the purpose of university business.

Ability to travel when necessary.

ERGONOMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The functions of the position usually performed sitting, but may require some amount of time standing. Some amount of stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting, walking, carrying and other movements may be required. Tasks involving working on a computer keyboard, computer software applications, calculator, cutting, labeling, and taping involve extensive wrist and hand movement. All individuals are required to be able to perform these movements without significant risk of injury to themselves or others.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

1) Bachelor's degree is required.

2) A minimum of three years' professional coaching experience in a college/university setting is preferred.

3) A valid New York State driver's license is required that satisfies both University and insurance company underwriting rules and regulations for driving a motor vehicle. Must also be able to operate a motor vehicle in Canada.
