    Varsity Head Softball Coach

    Supplement: 11 Month Contract & $9,000

    Position Purpose

    The Varsity Head Softball Coach provides leadership, organization, and supervision for the high school softball program. The coach is responsible for developing student-athletes through instruction in softball skills, competitive strategy, teamwork, and character development while ensuring compliance with Lee County School System policies and GHSA regulations.

    This position promotes academic success, sportsmanship, and positive student development while fostering a competitive and well-organized athletic program.

    Note: All Varsity Head Coaches must be certified employees of the Lee County School System.

    Qualifications

    • Ability to organize and supervise a successful high school softball program.
    • Previous successful coaching experience in softball (high school experience preferred).
    • Demonstrated knowledge of softball techniques, strategies, and current coaching practices.
    • Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
    • Knowledge of Georgia High School Association rules and regulations governing interscholastic athletics.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive softball program aligned with district expectations and athletic department goals.
    • Instruct student-athletes in softball fundamentals, including hitting, fielding, pitching, base running, and game strategy.
    • Promote positive character development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and academic responsibility among student-athletes.
    • Ensure compliance with all Lee County School System policies and GHSA rules and regulations.
    • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches in collaboration with the Athletic Director and school administration.
    • Organize and coordinate practices, game schedules, and tournaments while adhering to facility schedules and district procedures.
    • Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team travel.
    • Monitor student-athlete eligibility, including academic progress, physical examinations, and required documentation.
    • Implement procedures for injury prevention, medical response, and emergency situations and complete required injury documentation.
    • Maintain accountability for athletic equipment, including inventory, care, storage, and annual reporting.
    • Operate the program within the approved budget and assist with equipment and supply management.
    • Maintain positive communication with parents, students, school staff, booster organizations, and community stakeholders.
    • Promote the softball program within the school and community while maintaining positive public relations.
    • Organize preseason meetings with parents and student-athletes to communicate program expectations.
    • Maintain discipline and ensure student-athletes follow established team and school rules.
    • Ensure school facilities and equipment are properly secured and maintained following practices and events.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or Superintendent.

    Physical and Work Environment

    Work is performed on softball fields, in athletic facilities, and in school settings. The position requires standing, walking, demonstrating athletic skills, supervising students in practice and competition settings, and occasionally lifting athletic equipment.
