We are seeking a talented and driven Head Strength & Conditioning Coach to join our Health & Performance team, reporting to the Director, Health & Performance.

Job Summary:

The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive, evidence-informed, individualized physical performance programs that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and support the holistic development of athletes. This role combines advanced strength and conditioning expertise with strong sport science competencies, leveraging data and technology to optimize health and performance outcomes and support competitive success. The Head Strength & Conditioning Coach will primarily work out of our office and facilities located in Toronto with regular travel throughout North America with the Tempo team.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Strength & Conditioning Programming

  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs using a science and data-informed approach.
  • Establish and execute testing and exercise protocols pertaining to performance and rehabilitation.
  • Teach proper execution, techniques and safety for all lifts and movement drills to Tempo athletes.
  • Administer athlete monitoring program ensuring strict adherence to test protocols and standards.
  • Provide analysis and insights from athlete monitoring program and other testing data to support individualized player plans and return-to-play processes.
  • Develop player progress reports and deliver key insights to coaches, management, and athletes.
  • Collaborate with Player Health & Performance colleagues to manage player data, including tasks such as data entry, cleaning, analysis, and report generation (written and visual).
  • Work with coaches and player development staff to manage player load, maximize schedule efficiency, and optimize performance outcomes
  • Ensure proper set-up and breakdown of sport science equipment (e.g., force plates, dynamometers, GPS) for data collection and assessments
  • Maintain physical preparation spaces and equipment, including Performance Science equipment.

Cross Collaboration & Communications

  • Effectively communicate player goals to individual athletes, coaching staff, and management.
  • Connect and collaborate with physical therapists, athletic trainers, coaches, performance scientists, dietitians, mental health staff, athletes, and Basketball Operations staff.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Collaborate with Director, Health & Performance to plan, track, manage, and review strength and conditioning annual operations and budgets.
  • Actively participate in continuing education and professional growth opportunities.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others.
  • Ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.
  • Ability to transfer and move items for departmental needs.
  • May be required to lift up to 100 lbs of equipment, along with bending, reaching, and throwing items.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Exercise Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years in a strength and conditioning-related role utilizing performance principles, tools, and processes.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the NSCA required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Current certification in at least one of the following: Basic Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, Advanced Life Support, or Advanced Trauma Life Support required.
  • Experience with objective diagnostic testing (e.g., force plates).
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
