Position Summary
The Head Softball Coach provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for the development and sustained success of Brazosport College’s intercollegiate softball program. As a foundational leader within a startup athletics environment, this position is responsible for building a competitive program grounded in integrity, character development, academic achievement, and community engagement.
The Head Softball Coach will implement best practices in collegiate softball, integrating advanced analytics, player development systems, and performance optimization strategies to support individual and team success. This role fosters a culture of accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement while aligning with the College’s mission of elevating lives through education and learning that inspires, empowers, and connects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Program Development and Leadership
• Build and lead a comprehensive NJCAA softball program from inception, including program philosophy, structure, and operational systems
• Establish a culture rooted in integrity, character, accountability, and competitive excellence
• Develop and implement a multi-year program plan focused on sustainable growth, recruitment pipelines, and competitive success
• Ensure full compliance with NJCAA, institutional, and Title IX requirements
Student-Athlete Development
• Promote holistic development of student-athletes, emphasizing academic success, retention, and completion
• Foster leadership, character development, personal responsibility, and life skills
• Monitor academic progress in coordination with advising and student services
• Provide mentorship supporting transfer opportunities and career pathways
Skill and Performance Development
• Design and implement comprehensive training programs for softball-specific skill development
• Utilize evidence-based coaching methodologies to enhance offensive, defensive, and pitching performance
• Integrate strength and conditioning, injury prevention, and recovery strategies
• Develop individualized and position-specific development plans
Analytics and Competitive Strategy
• Integrate advanced softball analytics into player evaluation and game strategy
• Utilize performance data to assess hitting efficiency, pitching effectiveness, defensive metrics, and situational outcomes
• Apply video analysis and technology platforms to support player development and scouting
• Continuously refine strategy based on performance data and emerging best practices
Recruitment and Talent Acquisition
• Develop and execute a strategic recruiting plan targeting high-character, academically capable student-athletes
• Build strong recruiting pipelines with high school and club softball programs
• Ensure recruiting practices align with NJCAA regulations and institutional expectations
• Strategically manage roster composition and scholarship allocation
Community Engagement and Program Visibility
• Serve as a visible ambassador for Brazosport College and the softball program
• Develop relationships with local schools, youth programs, and community partners
• Coordinate camps, clinics, and outreach initiatives to promote the program
• Enhance program visibility and community support
Operations and Administration
• Oversee all aspects of program operations, including scheduling, travel, equipment, and budget management
• Collaborate with Athletics administration on facilities planning, compliance, and game-day operations
• Maintain accurate records, including eligibility, academic tracking, and compliance documentation
• Ensure responsible stewardship of College resources
