DC Power FC, a founding member of the USL Gainbridge Super League (first-division women’s soccer league), is looking for a head athletic trainer to join our sports medicine team. This role is central to the health, safety, and readiness of our female professional players. You’ll make sure they’re prepared to perform every day, in training (Leesburg, VA) and on match day (Audi Field Washington, D.C. & Away Games around the country). You’ll work closely with the medical, technical, performance, and soccer operations staff to provide injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and recovery / rehabilitation. The ideal candidate does well in a fast-paced professional sports environment, is open to a positive learning environment, and wants to help build a club committed to excellence on and off the field. Per diem and travel expenses to Away Games included.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with the team medical staff and under the direction of the team physician(s), you will:
• Manage day-to-day player healthcare, including emergency care and first aid, on-site injury evaluation, treatment and therapeutic modalities, and rehab and injury-prevention programs
• Track player wellness and screen for female-specific health concerns
• Provide coverage for training sessions, scrimmages, home and away matches, and preseason
• Coordinate medical referrals, and go with players to appointments and procedures as needed
• Develop and carry out return-to-play plans with physicians and performance staff
• Coordinate preseason physicals and medical screenings required by the league
• Write, update, and rehearse emergency action plans (EAPs) for all training and match venues
• Monitor players' physical and mental well-being through daily contact, and refer them to the right medical staff when needed • Advise players on nutrition and supplements, including WADA banned substances and GlobalDRO, and refer them to the team physician or a dietitian when needed
• Keep accurate, timely records in Kitman Labs, electronic medical record (EMR) system, including injury reports, assessments, treatments, and return-to-play dates
• Start and manage workers' compensation and insurance claims for players
• Make sure the club follows all league medical policies and protocols, and complete required league reports
• Order supplies, manage inventory, and maintain clinical equipment and medication records
• Keep the athletic training room clean, safe, and organized, and follow OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards
• Keep the head of medical informed of priority player health issues
• Supervise athletic training students, interns and volunteers
• Communicate effectively with players, coaches, medical staff, club personnel, and league staff
• Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required certifications
• Board of Certification (BOC) certified athletic trainer
• Licensed, or eligible for licensure, as an athletic trainer in Virginia (Board of Medicine)
• Current BLS/CPR and AED certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association)
• Recommended: CSCS, NASM-PES or CES, dry needling, or other manual therapy certifications Education
• Bachelor’s degree required
• Master’s degree in athletic training or a related healthcare field preferred Experience
• 2–3+ years of experience as a certified athletic trainer
• Experience with elite-level athletes (collegiate, professional, or Olympic) • Soccer experience preferred
• Able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and to travel with the team
