Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE:  
The Portland Thorns FC are searching for a seasoned marketing professional to serve as the Director of Gameday Presentation reporting into the VP Marketing. In this role, you will play a leadership position within the Marketing team, overseeing all aspects of event logistics, in-game entertainment and creating and executing memorable fan experiences. The ideal candidate has a strong background in live event management, sports entertainment, and game presentation. The person in this role should be a master collaborator, with the ability to work across departments including Partnerships, Creative Design, Community Impact, and Ticketing, as well as manage external relationships with vendors and partners. This role requires a proactive individual with a passion for sports, particularly women's soccer, and the ability to work non-traditional hours in a fast-paced environment. 
WHAT YOU’ll BE UP TO:  
  • Own the full scope of game day operations including, but not limited to: Providence Park stadium conversion, signage installation and coordination of fan facing activations in stadium. 
  • Serve as the primary ''show caller,'' coordinating all elements of in-game entertainment, including pre-match ceremonies, promotions, video board content, scoreboard updates, music selection, and performances ensuring seamless execution during live events. 
  • Plan and oversee the comprehensive matchday production, covering all aspects of in-stadium entertainment, fan engagement, music, and video content from pre-match to post-match. 
  • Develop strategies for matchday theme nights, concourse promotions, and giveaways that create unforgettable experiences for both new and existing fans attending Portland Thorns matches. 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Fan Development on strategy and staffing for external fan experiences, such as deploying promo crews at festivals, parades, and other events. 
  • Develop and execute game day presentation plans, concepts and theme-specific elements for home games. 
  • Secure and manage vendors and agency partners in the execution of game day operations and activations 
  • Work with ticketing, partnership, community impact and other internal stakeholders on the game day entertainment, in-game promotion and on field presentations 
  • Collaborate with internal departments to create a cohesive and memorable game day experience. 
  • Manage production staff, including stage managers, DJ, PA, camera operators, anthem singers and in-game entertainers  
  • Direct the game-day production team, including music, graphics, video board content, and live performances. 
  • Assist in the development and management of yearly budgets for the game day specific needs 
  • Manage and coordinate with the venue and vendors for all game day / event logistics 
  • Collaborate with creative services to align on in stadium and game day branding 
  • Lead all in-game entertainment, ensuring a seamless and engaging fan experience. 
  • Create game day scripts and work with the PA announcer to coordinate player introductions, crowd prompts, and sponsor activations. 
  • Oversee the hiring of national anthem singers and halftime entertainment for all home games 
  • Ensure flawless execution of national anthems, special presentations and halftime entertainment 
  • Manage live elements such as featured video content like jersey cams, giveaways, and interactive contests. 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any technical or logistical issues during the event. 
  
What it Takes to Be a Thorn:  
  • 7 - 10 years of experience in a relevant field, with a proven track record of leading game day operations and events 
  • Proven experience "show calling" for live events and a deep understanding of live event production, including sound and lighting design, video production, and live entertainment. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management skills, able to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously 
  • Experience and interest in live event production.  
  • Passion for the growth and development of women's soccer, with a vested interest in advancing the sport and engaging fans through
