We are seeking a talented and driven Dietitian to join our Health & Performance team, reporting to the Director, Health & Performance.

Job Summary:

The Dietitian will be responsible for providing nutrition services to athletes to optimize performance, recovery, and health by assessing individual needs, developing meal strategies, advising on hydration and supplements, and educating on fueling for training, competition, and injury recovery. This role will work alongside Heath & Performance colleagues to provide holistic care to all Tempo players. The Dietitian will primarily work out of our office and facilities located in Toronto. With limited travel within North America. This role will be approximately 20 hours per week during pre-season and in season and 5 hours per week during off season.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Performance Nutrition

  • Conduct nutrition performance assessments, counsel and create nutritional plans to support energy balance and needs, and performance and body composition goals.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy to those who may have special health care needs (e.g., food allergy and/or intolerances, vitamin/mineral depletion, gastrointestinal disturbances, bone mineral disturbances, disordered eating/eating disorders, those recovering from injury and/or illness).
  • Evaluate nutrition-related laboratory values and create best-practice interventions to address any deficiencies.
  • Maintain documentation of nutrition assessments and nutrition services provided.
  • Conduct body composition assessments, interpret data and provide recommendations in alignment with current research and that encourages optimal athletic performance, health, and wellness.
  • Utilize data from sweat and hydration testing to provide hydration and recovery nutrition recommendations.
  • Educate, evaluate, monitor, and advise athletes on dietary supplements, including their health and/or performance-promoting functions, dosing, and timing, supplement safety and risk considerations, and ensuring compliance with WNBA policies.
  • Attend team activities such as practices, lifts/conditioning/training, competitions, meetings, mealtimes, and other events where nutrition support is needed.
  • Communicate regularly with Health and Performance staff regarding athlete care and provide referrals and necessary updates.
  • Serve as a reliable source and subject-matter expert for nutrition for athletes and staff, ensuring all content provided is aligned with evidence-based research.

Food Service

  • Manage nutrition fueling for practices, lifts, training sessions and competitions, including pre-, during, and post-game fuel and hydration including menu selection, ordering and procuring meals, snacks, and fluids.
  • Coordinate the development of menus and communicate the expectations, including food variety, quantity, and quality, with food service suppliers and/or caterers.
  • Regular communication and collaboration with home food service providers.
  • Coordinate nutrition plans/menus/orders for domestic travel, and international travel when required.
  • Follow and promote proper food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Educate athletes on food selection and preparation through counseling, presentations, grocery store tours and cooking demonstrations.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Health & Performance to plan annual operating and capital nutrition-related budgets.

Professional Development

  • Maintain dietetic registration and continuing education requirements.
  • Stay abreast of current food, nutrition, and health issues and research related to sports nutrition.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, jump, run, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate with others.
  • Required to lift up to 45 kg (100 lbs) of equipment, along with bending, reaching, and throwing items.
  • Required to lift and position patients for examination, including helping them on and off tables.
  • Ability to review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • University degree in Nutrition or a related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a Dietitian with elite athletes required.
  • Licenced/Certified and in good standing to practice as a Dietitian in Ontario required.
  • IOC Diploma and/or Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) preferred.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid passport and ability to travel globally required.

The salary range for the Dietician (part time) role is between $30,000 - $32,000 CAD.
