Position Summary:
The Varsity Head Fast-Pitch Softball Coach serves as the leader of the softball program and is responsible for the overall direction, development, and supervision of the Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Junior High teams. The head coach will establish a unified program philosophy, promote academic and athletic excellence, and build a positive, competitive culture aligned with school and district standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Oversight
- Provide leadership and vision for the entire softball program (Varsity, JV, and Junior High)
- Develop and implement a consistent program philosophy, terminology, and skill progression
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate JV and Junior High coaches
- Coordinate program-wide communication and expectations
Varsity Team Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct high-quality practices focused on skill development, conditioning, and strategy
- Prepare and coach the Varsity team in all competitions
- Develop game plans and in-game adjustments
- Monitor player development and promote athletes appropriately within the program
Student-Athlete Development
- Promote academic accountability and monitor eligibility
- Foster leadership, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Model professionalism and positive character
- Encourage off-season development and strength/conditioning participation
Operations & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with district and state athletic association rules and policies
- Coordinate schedules, transportation, equipment, and uniforms
- Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and program needs
- Assist with budgeting and fundraising efforts as needed
Communication & Community Relations
- Maintain clear communication with players, parents, coaches, and administration
- Promote a positive image of the softball program within the school and community
- Support youth feeder programs and community engagement efforts
Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of fast-pitch softball rules, techniques, and strategy
- Prior coaching experience required; head coaching experience preferred
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to build a cohesive program across multiple levels
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Meet all district and state coaching requirements
- CDL preferred
Work Schedule
Seasonal position requiring after-school practices, evening competitions, weekend tournaments, off-season program coordination, and summer planning activities.
