High Point, North Carolina, High Point University, a NCAA Division I member of the Big South Conference, is accepting applications for the Athletic Academic Advisor – Men’s & Women’s Basketball (full-time, 12 month) position. This entry level position will provide academic support and advising services to basketball student-athletes in compliance with NCAA, Conference, and High Point University rules and regulations. This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director. QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

Bachelor’s Degree required

Master’s Degree preferred

 

Experience and Training

Minimum one year of athletic academic advising and/or counseling required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.

Demonstrated counseling and advising skills

Ability to effectively interact and work with coaches

Database and word processing skills

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong organizational skills and administrative abilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :  

Assists in the organization, coordination and implementation of academic support services for basketball student- athletes.

Counsels and advises basketball student-athletes in establishing realistic and attainable goals regarding course and major selection, study skills, time management and career choices.

Coordinates study hall, monitor attendance, and prepare study hall reports for coaches.

Monitors basketball student academic progress through contact with faculty, meetings with students and progress report data. 

Communicates with basketball student-athletes, coaches, and other applicable administrative staff regarding assigned student-athletes’ academic records in regard to matriculation, graduation and NCAA eligibility. 

Monitors and track for NCAA, Big South Conference, and institutional eligibility. 

Assists with enrollment procedures and on-campus recruiting.

Assists with the evaluation and certification of student athletes' NCAA continuing eligibility.

Communicates regularly with colleagues to ensure compliance with eligibility requirements.

Plans and assists in the execution of special events and initiatives for basketball student-athlete recognition.

Assists with life skills programming.

Available to work evenings and weekends. 

Performs other related duties as assigned.
