Smithfield, Rhode Island, Bryant University invites applications for the full-time position of assistant women’s volleyball coach. The head women’s volleyball coach directly supervises the assistant women’s volleyball coach.
Responsibilities:
The assistant coach will collaborate with the head coach to develop practice plans that develop both team and individual skills, provide position specific instruction to student athletes, evaluate player performance, offer feedback and develop improvement plans. The assistant coach will also support strength and conditioning and athletic training staffs. Identify and evaluate prospective student athletes through scouting, video review and in person visits. Communicate with prospects and families in coordination with compliance staff, maintain accurate recruiting records and adhere to NCAA and America East recruiting regulations. Assist head coach with game strategy, line ups and in game adjustments. Analyze opponent game film and provide scouting reports for the team. They will monitor academics, coordinate team travel, support student athletes (both on and off the court), fundraise, and facilitate practice and games including setting up equipment and other operational needs for the volleyball program. This person should be able to participate in practice when necessary.
The goal of this position is to support the HC in efforts to lead the program and support its student athletes.
Summary of duties:
The AC supports the head coach in recruiting student athletes while ensuring compliance with university policy, America East and NCAA Division 1 regulations, including eligibility verification, visiting planning, and maintaining current knowledge of all institutional and NCAA rules. They assist with organizing practices, conditioning sessions, and managing equipment and uniforms. The position involves travel for recruiting and contests, travel coordination, match preparation and scouting reports. Additional responsibilities include participation in community engagement events with alumni and stake holders and performing other duties as assigned to perform volleyball operations.
Certain requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate persons with disabilities. This position is best filled by an individual with an undergraduate degree and related collegiate volleyball experience including successful recruiting, coaching and counseling student athletes. Knowledge and skill should also include experience in scheduling and coordination to support intramural and recreational athletic programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills are needed to motivate and supervise athletes and students. A thorough understanding of and experience with NCAA and America East Conference rules and regulations is critical. The ability to manage multiple tasks is essential. Knowledge of related computer applications is important. A valid driver’s license is required for travel. This position has non-standard hours.
