The Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball reports to the Women’s Basketball Head Coach and works as a member of the LSUS Women’s Basketball program performing a wide range of tasks including the identification, recruitment, coaching, and retention of student athletes. Schedules contests and participates in athletic development and fundraising activities for athletics programs. Promotes and oversees the academic well-being of student athletes. Reviews film to scout opposing teams and provides leadership for all aspects of the basketball program.

Serves as a resource to the LSUS Athletics Department for the Women’s Basketball program. Is detail oriented and maintains accurate electronic and paper records. The Assistant Coach, Women’s Basketball is a full time, unclassified, exempt 12 month position.

Duties:

Comply with all LSUS, NAIA, and Red River Athletic Conference regulations and policies

Assists the Women’s Basketball Head Coach with day-to-day activities associated with the program including, but not limited to, recruitment, on-the-floor coaching, video work, and community involvement.

Provides leadership for all aspects of Women’s Basketball to ensure a highly competitive and successful program.

Serves as a role model to mentor team members to develop and display appropriate behavior and sportsmanship expected of athletic teams and individuals representing LSUS.

Observes athletes during practice and competition to identify opportunities for individual or team improvement. Teaches players specific tasks and skills before, during, and after practice.

Schedules contests and reviews film to scout other teams.

Supports and monitors academic performance and social development of the student athletes.

Assists with recruitment of new student athletes including, but not limited to, attends off-campus games for the purpose of contact and evaluation, manages recruitment material mailings, maintains contact and plans campus visits with prospective student athletes.

Coordinates all enrollment activities of Women’s Basketball student athletes.

Participates in athletic development and fundraising activities for athletics programs. Supports leadership development, team development, and community service.

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

LSUS values skills, experience and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply - a degree is not required if the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.

3 years experience coaching at the high school level or above.

Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel regularly for games, recruiting and scouting opponents. (May be obtained within 6 months of employment)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution

3 years of coaching experience at the NCAA or NAIA level.

Knowledge of college athletics programs regulatory requirements.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with individuals at all levels.

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
