DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a motivated and positive Walk-On Coach to support the development of middle school and/or high school-aged student-athletes. This is a part-time position. The coach will work closely with the Head Coach and coaching staff to provide quality instruction, develop athletic skills, prepare athletes for competition, and promote a positive team culture.  This job application generically covers the following sports:

  • Girls & Boys Volleyball
  • Cross Country
  • Girls & Boys Tennis
  • Flag Football
  • Girls & Boys Soccer
  • Girls & Boys Basketball
  • Track & Field
  • Baseball
  • Softball
  • Fencing

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced athlete, coach, teacher, or mentor who enjoys working with young athletes and is committed to helping them grow both on and off the field/court.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with planning and conducting practices, drills, workouts, and team activities.
  • Teach sport-specific fundamentals, techniques, strategies, and rules.
  • Provide positive, constructive, and age-appropriate coaching and feedback.
  • Help develop athletes of varying ages, experience levels, and abilities.
  • Assist with game and competition preparation, scouting, and coaching responsibilities.
  • Support athlete development from middle school through high school levels.
  • Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, sportsmanship, and confidence.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
  • Communicate professionally with athletes, parents/guardians, coaches, and administrators.
  • Assist with equipment, facilities, and other program responsibilities.
  • Follow all applicable school, league, organizational, and youth-safety policies.
  • Attend practices, games, tournaments, meetings, and other program activities as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous coaching, playing, teaching, or mentoring experience preferred.
  • Dependable, energetic, encouraging and team oriented.
  • Experience working with middle school and/or high school athletes is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of the applicable sport.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with athletes of different ages and skill levels.
  • Passion for youth development and creating a positive athletic environment.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working with minors.
  • CPR/First Aid and required coaching certifications may be required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following:

  • Stand for extended periods
  • Sit for extended periods
  • Bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions
  • Climb up and down stairs
  • Bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials
  • Pull, push, and lift
  • Reach both above and below shoulder height.  

Specific visual abilities include the following:

  • Close vision
  • Color vision
  • Depth perception, and
  • The ability to adjust focus. 
  • Must be able to visually inspect work. 
  • Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required.
