Founded in 2012, Portland Thorns FC have set the standard for fan support and on-field success in women’s soccer since its inaugural 2013 season. One of the world’s most supported women’s soccer clubs, Portland has led the league in attendance for eight seasons and set a new club playoff attendance record last year with 25,218 fans supporting Thorns FC in the 2023 semifinal match at Providence Park. Thorns FC have won the NWSL Championship a league-record three times (2013, 2017, 2022) and finished as runners-up in 2018. The club has made the postseason a league-high nine times and has won the NWSL Shield in 2016 and 2021.

THE ROLE:
The Fan Development Coordinator is a seasonal, part-time role (29 hours or less per week) supporting the day-to-day execution of Portland Thorns Street Team deployments, grassroots activations, watch party programming, and matchday fan engagement operations. The ideal candidate is organized, energetic, and passionate about building authentic local relationships through soccer. 

Please Note: We can only consider candidates who are 21 years of age or older at time of hire due to location/venue access. 
WHAT YOU'LL BE UP TO:
Street Team Operations & Coordination 
  • Serve as on-site lead coordinator at events, overseeing execution of street team activations 
  • Distribute call sheets ahead of each match and event 
  • Prepare and transport match-day activation kits 
Matchday Fan Experience 
  • Oversee matchday responsibilities for Street Team members including ingress giveaway distribution, concourse tabling, and fan engagement zones 
  • Serve as on-site lead for Street Team matchday activations 
  • Assist with match-by-match credentialing for local partners and activation vendors including collecting required information and headshots 
Watch Party & Bar Network Support 
  • Distribute bar network activation kits including signage, pennants, coasters, and promotional materials 
  • Staff watch party events with Street Team members 
  • Manage on-site logistics including setup, staffing, materials, and breakdown 
Grassroots Event Activations 
  • Support Thorns presence at local events, festivals, and cultural celebrations throughout the season 
  • Assist with event logistics including booth setup, staffing, materials, giveaways, and lead capture 
  • Serve as on-site lead for Thorns activations at third-party events 
Fan Acquisition & Data Management 
  • Coordinate data collection efforts at events, watch parties, and street activations 
  • Support ticket programs and promotional code distribution to drive first-time attendance 

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE AT THORN:
  • Experience in sports marketing, fan engagement, event coordination, or grassroots outreach, with a focus on diverse audiences 
  • Cultural Competency: Genuine interest in and understanding of multicultural audiences, including traditions, trends, and fandom 
  • Event Planning: Demonstrated ability to support and execute local events and matchday activations with strong attention to detail and follow-through 
  • Soccer Knowledge: Familiarity with soccer culture and the NWSL is highly desirable 
  • Operational Mindset: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks, timesheets, logistics, and ROS documentation simultaneously 
  • Collaboration Skills: Experience working as part of a team across departments including marketing, communications, and operations 
  • Reliable and proactive: Shows up on time, follows through on commitments, and takes initiative without being asked 
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging 
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed for matches and local events 
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus but not required
