    POSITION:            Northeast Middle School Girls Volleyball~ Red Tigers Team

    POSITION TITLE:   HEAD COACH
    REPORTS TO:         The Director of Athletics, who provides a final evaluation to the superintendent.


    SUMMARY:              To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success while at the same time helping the athlete to achieve an appreciation for the values of discipline, sportsmanship, and an increased level of self-esteem.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Other duties may be assigned.

    1.Has full responsibility for the overall supervision of their program.
    2. Is responsible for the general upkeep, protection, and inventory of the equipment and uniforms
    used in their sport.
    3. Is responsible for assuring that they know the existing state and league regulations and abide by
    them at all times.
    4. Assist the athletic coordinator in providing transportation and requirements for tournament and
    special sport events.
    5. Attend all league meetings regarding scheduling and rule updates specific to their sport.
    6. Responsible for developing their schedules for all levels of play.
    7. Communicates all schedule changes to the Director of Athletics or athletic coordinator.
    8. Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment storage areas.
    9. Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices, and adheres to
    scheduled facility times.
    10. Makes recommendations for awards and is responsible for clarification of the award policy to
    athletes.
    11. Participates in the budgeting process with the Director of Athletics by establishing requirements
    for the next season. Is responsible for explaining equipment guidelines as to type, color, style, or
    technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within the established budget.
    12. Has a thorough knowledge of policies and procedures in the student-athlete handbook and CIAC
    handbook. Is responsible for explaining and reinforcing rules of training and code of conduct in
    the student-athlete handbook along with the CIAC eligibility rules to all members of the team.
    13. Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by the staff.
    14. Monitors equipment rooms and coaches' office, i.e.: permits athletes to only be in authorized areas
    of the building at the appropriate times. Never leave athletes unsupervised during scheduled
    practices.
    15. Examines locker rooms, equipment rooms, and playing safe areas before and after team use
    checking general cleanliness and safety.
    16. Secures all doors, lights, windows, gates, locks, and alarm when leaving the building or outside
    facility when custodians are not on duty.
    17. Will submit necessary postseason reports to the Director of Athletics at the conclusion of the
    season.

    18. Is responsible for the actions and conduct of their team whenever they are under their
    jurisdiction.
    19. Is responsible for the general health and welfare of student-athletes in their sport.
    20. Communicates instructions and commands using clear, simple, and positive language.
    21. Pays appropriate attention to athletes who are injured or ill or otherwise incapacitated. Is
    responsible for following the protocol set by the athletic department in regards to injured athletes.
    22. Organizes pre-season meetings for players and coaches.
    23. Is in charge of evaluating performance of student-athletes and providing suitable feedback,
    balancing critique with positive and motivating comments.
    24. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with media, parents, officials, opponents, and
    fans.
    25. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care, and use.
    26. Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
    27. Maintains current Connecticut coaching certification with the State of Connecticut Department of
    Education.
    28. Performs other duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be
    requested by the Director of Athletics and/or principal.

     QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Valid Connecticut coaching certification or temporary emergency coaching permit.
    2. Updated CPR/First Aid training approved by Connecticut State Department of Education.
    3. Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
    4. Has substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
