About the Opportunity

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is one of the fastest-growing professional sports leagues in the US, driven by 14 clubs, over 300 of the world's best players, and record-shattering viewership. In our 12th season, we are scaling rapidly: 2024 attendance topped 2 million fans for the first time, and our broadcast partnerships with Amazon, CBS, ESPN, and Scripps drove a 285% increase in year-over-year viewership. This unprecedented growth is reflected in soaring team valuations, underscoring our expanding fan base and our dominant presence in both the sports media landscape and mainstream pop culture. The future of the NWSL is now, and we're looking for world-class talent like you to help us continue the momentum.

The Role

As the Manager, FP&A, you will be supporting our teams, serving as their trusted advisor for all financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis. This role is crucial for enabling departmental leaders to make smarter, faster, and more sustainable decisions. You will be instrumental in tracking the Return on Investment (ROI) of major initiatives and helping the league navigate its high-growth trajectory.

What You Will Own & Drive

Own Financial Planning

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Own the development and management of detailed annual budgets and dynamic rolling forecasts for your assigned business lines.
  • Expense Management: Coordinate, track, and analyze departmental expenses, including credit card transactions and vendor costs, ensuring high-accuracy and alignment with budget categories.
  • Performance Correction: Proactively monitor financial performance, identify significant variances, and recommend strategic adjustments to ensure investment remains on track and optimized.
  • P&L Alignment: Partner closely with the Accounting team to ensure seamless alignment on month-end close, invoice categorization, and the impact of departmental activity on the league's overall Profit & Loss (P&L) statement.

Be the Strategic Business Partner

  • Financial Translation: Act as the "translator" between finance and non-finance leaders, converting complex financial data into plain language and actionable takeaways.
  • Decision Support: Provide data-driven insights, scenario planning, and financial modeling to support critical strategic decisions, new projects, media deals, and partnership initiatives.
  • Risk & Opportunity Spotting: Proactively identify potential financial risks before they materialize and highlight opportunities for greater efficiency and investment.

Analyze & Advise

  • Reporting & Storytelling: Dig into monthly results, clearly explaining variances, and developing compelling financial reports that narrate the "story behind the numbers" to executive leadership.
  • Efficiency Drives: Constantly seek out trends, best practices, and actionable areas to improve operational and financial efficiency across your partner teams.

What You Will Bring

Core Qualifications

  • Experience: 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), budgeting, or corporate accounting.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling), Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Oracle financial systems or Google Suite is a plus.
  • Communication: Highly effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present high-quality work and execute against tight deadlines.
  • Mindset: Entrepreneurial and strategic mindset; thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth, and dynamic environment.
  • Culture: Actively listens, seeks feedback, and communicates in a direct, open, and honest manner.
  • Builder & Scrappy: Comfortable operating in a high-growth environment where you will be expected to build processes from scratch, solve problems creatively with limited resources, and iterate quickly as the league scales.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A genuine passion for women's sports and excitement for the growth of professional soccer in the USA and globally.
  • Demonstrates a strong professional and positive presence that represents the league's brand, both internally and externally.
  • Highly accountable for actions/decisions and guided by strong moral and ethical principles.
