Description:
This is a 10-month, salaried position.  As Head Women’s Basketball Coach: responsible for all aspects of an NCAA Division III athletic program. The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is also expected to support the management of home athletic events and assist with the care and maintenance of their associated athletic facility spaces.

Following long-standing tradition and practice at Berea College, this position includes responsibility for supervising, mentoring, and developing students in the College's integrated Work College Program. This supports student learning, career readiness, and the program's learning goals and outcomes. The Work College Program provides a developmental framework that guides student learning while creating a structured mentorship opportunity, with role-specific training that equips faculty and staff mentors to support student development. Faculty and staff mentors play an essential part in helping students connect their work-learning-service experiences with broader academic, professional, and personal development. For faculty, this aligns with Berea's tenure and promotion criteria. 
Your Key Responsibilities:

Develop a competitive intercollegiate athletic program, consistent with the values and Great Commitments of Berea College;
Coaching and supervision of coaches and support staff;
Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of all conference and national athletic affiliations;
Responsible for all aspects of program recruiting within Berea College and NCAA Division III guidelines;
Manage program budget within assigned funding levels;
Monitor academic progress of team members;
Work with the Athletic Communications office to ensure profile information on all players is accurate and up-to-date, student-athletes are nominated for applicable awards, schedules are updated, and accurate, and post-competition statistical reporting is complete;
Communicate regularly with Athletic Training staff to ensure health and well-being of student-athletes;
Arrange travel plans and coordinate scheduling with the Director of Athletics;
Demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship and conduct representative of the coaching profession and Berea College Athletics;
Mentor and develop a positive culture for student-athletes;
Ensure student-athlete compliance with all College policies applicable to all students;
Be knowledgeable about the living environment for student-athletes, particularly those living off-campus with permission. 
Related duties as assigned by the Director or other administrators. 

Each head coaching appointment at Berea College include secondary responsibilities. For the Head Women's Basketball Coach these secondary responsibilities include:Serve as Game Day Administrator and assist Events staff with the management of tournaments and other events hosted by Berea College Athletics.
Assist the Athletic Facilities Coordinator with projects, general care, maintenance and upkeep of the Seabury Center main arena, Hager Gymnasium and the team locker room;
Assist with set-up for athletic events and other College-sponsored programming within athletic facilities, as needed;
Provide supplemental supervision, scheduling coordination and general oversight of the Seabury Center main arena and Hager Gymnasium.

The head coaching appointment carries the expectation that the Head Women's Basketball Coach will serve as a representative and advocate for their program, our athletic department, and the College, both on campus and in the local community. To this end, all coaches are required to: Annually engage with program alumni;
Conduct fundraisers in support of their program;
Participate in a service-oriented activity annually;
Maintain an on-campus presence by routinely attending certain functions or serving on a campus committee;
Support other student-athletes and teams. 

Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for ll staff, faculty and students. 


What You'll Bring:
Education required to ensure success in this position:

Bachelor’s degree required. 

Experience required to ensure success in this position:
Demonstrated successful coaching experience.

Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
Outstanding knowledge in teaching and coaching basketball;.
Understanding and agreement with the mission and Great Commitments of Berea College;
Familiarity with the NCAA Division III philosophy;
Demonstrated organizational, leadership and time-management skills.
Excellent communication (oral, written and interpersonal) skills;
Ability to work with and relate well to students, faculty, staff and other coaches;
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

License, certification, or registration necessary:
CPR/AED/First Aid.
Berea College golf cart certification.
Driver’s license.
For any certifications or memberships not possessed upon hire, certifications or memberships must be promptly attained and regularly maintained.

Physical requirements:
Some heavy lifting;
Ability to move freely throughout a four-floor, 106,996 square foot athletic and recreation facility.
Ability to move freely throughout outdoor athletic facilities that feature three athletic fields (baseball, softball and soccer), as well as an outdoor track, a 10-court tennis complex, a cross country course and an indoor athletic practice facility.
It is expected that the individual in this position will work at times other than, or in addition to, normal business hours and days, including attendance at numerous evening and weekend athletic events.  This is especially true from August to May.

Environmental conditions:
Both indoor and outdoor.  

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
Standard computer hardware and software applications;
Be able to drive a passenger van and golf carts.
