    Position Summary

     

    Saint Ignatius College Prep seeks a mission-driven and enthusiastic Girls Volleyball Assistant Junior Varsity Coach to support the development and success of the girls' volleyball program. Working collaboratively with the Head Coach and Athletic Department, the Assistant Coach helps foster a positive, competitive, and educational environment that reflects the school's Jesuit mission of forming "men and women for others." This position is responsible for assisting with the instruction, supervision, and development of student-athletes while promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting Junior Varsity volleyball practices, competitions, and team activities.
    • Support the development of student-athletes' volleyball skills, teamwork, leadership, and character in alignment with the school's mission and athletic philosophy.
    • Promote a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, accountability, respect, and academic success.
    • Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, coaches, school administrators, and Athletic Department staff.
    • Assist with supervision of student-athletes during practices, competitions, team travel, and other program-related activities.
    • Support the Head Coach with program operations, including equipment management, practice preparation, and other administrative responsibilities as needed.
    • Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, and adherence to IHSA, school, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.

     

    Scope and Impact

     

    The Assistant Junior Varsity Coach contributes to the overall success and culture of the girls' volleyball program through direct coaching, mentorship, and student supervision. While the position has limited independent decision-making authority and no budget responsibility, it plays an important role in developing student-athletes, supporting program objectives, and advancing the mission of Saint Ignatius College Prep.

     

    Qualifications � Required

     

    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school-aged students.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to foster a positive, inclusive, and educational team environment.
    • Commitment to the mission and values of Saint Ignatius College Prep.

     

    Qualifications � Preferred

    • Previous volleyball playing and/or coaching experience.
    • Experience working in interscholastic athletics.
    • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, strategies, and player development.
    • Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to teach, motivate, and mentor student-athletes.
    • Knowledge of volleyball techniques, rules, and game strategy.
    • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively with coaches, administrators, parents, and students.
    • Demonstrated leadership, professionalism, and commitment to sportsmanship.

     

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements

     

    Work is performed primarily in gymnasium and athletic facility settings with regular attendance at practices, competitions, and occasional travel for away contests. The position requires standing, walking, demonstrating athletic movements, lifting and carrying athletic equipment, and the ability to supervise student-athletes in an active sports environment. Evening and weekend hours are required during the volleyball season.

     

    Compensation and Schedule

     

    • Seasonal, part-time position.
    • Compensation: ~ $5,000 stipend for the season.
    • Schedule varies based on practice and competition schedules and includes evenings and weekends.
    • Position is exempt from overtime requirements as applicable.
