Full-time
On-site
Leesburg, Virginia, United States
The Equipment Assistant supports the Equipment Manager in the daily operational management of the Washington Spirit’s equipment and kit program, ensuring that every training session, match day, and road trip runs smoothly from an equipment standpoint.

Reporting directly to the Equipment Manager, this role is a hands-on, high-energy
position that sits at the center of the team’s daily environment, setting locker rooms,
preparing training fields, managing laundry, maintaining inventory, and doing whatever it
takes to make sure the First Team always has exactly what it needs, in exactly the right
condition, exactly when it needs it.

The Equipment Assistant is not a passive support role. This individual is expected to
take genuine ownership of their assigned responsibilities, anticipate needs before they
are voiced, and bring the same standard of professionalism and attention to detail to
every task that a professional club environment demands. Over time, this role offers a
meaningful opportunity to develop the operational expertise, vendor knowledge, and
leadership skills that define a career in professional sports equipment management.
The ideal candidate is organized, physically capable, highly reliable, and genuinely
enthusiastic about being part of a professional women’s soccer organization. They take
pride in the invisible work that makes a training environment world-class and
understand that an immaculate locker room and a perfectly set pitch are contributions to
winning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Training & Locker Room Operations
• Prepare the locker room daily for players, coaches, and staff, ensuring that all kit,
equipment, and personal items are organized, laundered, and laid out to each
individual’s specifications and in alignment with the day’s scheduled activities
and weather forecast;
• Set up the training pitch ahead of each session, ensuring that all equipment
required for the coaching staff’s planned activities is in place, properly arranged,
and ready for use before the squad arrives, and that transitions between drills
and training segments are operationally seamless;
• Break down the training pitch and locker room following each session, returning
all equipment to its proper storage location, assessing condition, and flagging
any items requiring repair or replacement to the Equipment Manager; and
• Assist with the daily logistical requirements of equipment and gear to support the
First Team’s full training and match schedule, anticipating needs and proactively
preparing for each day’s activities rather than responding reactively.

Laundry & Kit Management
• Support the management of the First Team’s laundry operation, executing
washing, drying, folding, and distribution of all training kit, match kit, and staff
apparel in accordance with the schedules and standards established by the
Equipment Manager;
• Ensure that all kit is laundered, pressed where required, and ready for use on the
appropriate timeline throughout the training week and on match days, with no
items missed or delayed;
• Assist in tracking the condition of all kit items, identifying items that are worn,
damaged, or no longer fit for use and flagging them to the Equipment Manager
for replacement; and
• Assist with the distribution of kit and apparel to players and staff as directed by
the Equipment Manager, including the coordination of player-specific
customizations and the allocation of sponsored items.
Inventory & Equipment Maintenance
• Assist in maintaining the club’s inventory management system, supporting
accurate real-time tracking of all equipment and gear across training, match day,
and storage environments;
• Participate in all physical inventory counts as directed by the Equipment
Manager, conducting counts accurately and reconciling findings against inventory
records;
• Inspect equipment and gear regularly, assessing condition, functionality, and
safety, and reporting any concerns to the Equipment Manager promptly;
• Perform minor equipment repairs as within scope and directed by the Equipment
Manager, and support the coordination of external repairs for items requiring
specialist attention; and
• Maintain organized, clean, and efficiently arranged storage areas for all
equipment at the training facility and Audi Field, ensuring that all items are stored
in their designated locations and accessible to authorized staff.

Match Day Operations
• Support the Equipment Manager in all match day equipment operations at home
and away venues, assisting with the setup of the locker room, the preparation of
kit and equipment for pre-match, the match, and post-match recovery;
• Assist with the coordination and execution of equipment logistics for away
fixtures, including packing, transport, and venue setup, under the direction of the
Equipment Manager; and
• Ensure that all match day equipment needs are met on schedule and that no
player or staff member is without required kit or equipment at any point during the
match day.

Travel Support
• Travel with the team to designated away fixtures as required by the Equipment
Manager, serving as an operational support resource on the road for all
equipment needs;
• Assist with the packing, loading, transport, and unpacking of all team equipment
for away trips, ensuring that all items are accounted for, properly secured, and
transported without loss or damage;
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive large vans and trucks as
required for equipment transport; and
• Support the Equipment Manager in ensuring that the team’s full equipment
operation is replicated seamlessly at every away venue.
Additional Responsibilities
• Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and all applicable NWSL and club
policies and procedures;
• Attend all activities, meetings, and programs as required by the NWSL; and
• Perform other duties as assigned or required by the Equipment Manager.
