About the Columbus Fury
The Columbus Fury are a professional women's volleyball team competing in Major League Volleyball (MLV) — the premier professional women's volleyball league in North America. With new executive and coaching leadership in place for the 2027 season, we are in an active build phase: establishing the systems, processes, and organizational infrastructure necessary to support a growing franchise.
This is not a role for someone who wants to maintain what already exists. The operational foundation of this organization is being built right now. The Director of Business Operations will build it.

The Role
The Director of Business Operations is the President & GM's right hand on organizational execution. You own the business infrastructure of the Columbus Fury — finance administration, human resources, technology and CRM, cross-departmental coordination, and operational process across the franchise.

You will directly manage the Office Manager & Community Relations coordinator and work alongside department heads in Ticketing, Corporate Partnerships, Marketing, and Volleyball Operations. You have real authority and real accountability. If something isn't working operationally, it is your job to fix it.
The right candidate has operated inside a fast-moving organization, is comfortable building structure where little exists, and is energized by variety. You will touch nearly every part of the business.

This role is based in our Columbus, Ohio office. Occasional remote flexibility is available, particularly during the off-season.
What You'll Own
Business Operations & Organizational Infrastructure
  • Own day-to-day business operations across the organization
  • Build and maintain operational systems, workflows, and internal processes from the ground up
  • Lead cross-departmental initiatives and ensure organizational priorities are executed on schedule
  • Establish accountability measures, project timelines, and reporting cadences
  • Identify inefficiencies and implement solutions — proactively, not reactively

Financial Administration
  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning in partnership with the GM and finance advisors
  • Own departmental budget tracking and variance reporting
  • Develop executive dashboards and KPI reporting for ownership and leadership
  • Manage relationships with outsourced finance and accounting partners

Technology, CRM & Data
  • Own the organization's CRM platform — governance, data quality, and adoption across departments
  • Administer and improve ticketing, sponsorship, marketing, and fan engagement systems
  • Evaluate and implement technology solutions that improve organizational efficiency
  • Build reporting capabilities that give leadership real-time visibility into performance
  • Lead AI and automation initiatives — identify opportunities to improve speed and reduce manual work across the organization

Human Resources & People Operations
  • Own recruiting administration, onboarding, and new hire processes
  • Maintain employee policies, procedures, and compliance requirements
  • Coordinate benefits administration and personnel records
  • Support a positive organizational culture through consistent, fair people practices
  • Directly manage the Office Manager & Community Relations coordinator

Advisor & Consultant Coordination
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day coordination point for organizational advisors and external consultants
  • Manage relationships with outsourced finance, marketing, and operations partners
  • Ensure advisor and consultant deliverables are integrated into organizational planning and execution

Cross-Departmental Coordination
  • Serve as the connective tissue across Ticketing, Partnerships, Marketing, and Volleyball Operations
  • Facilitate communication, remove operational blockers, and keep projects moving
  • Support department heads with process improvement, reporting structure, and operational execution
  • Coordinate planning and execution for Fury home matches and organizational events

What We're Looking For

Required
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in business operations, administration, or organizational management
  • Demonstrated experience owning operational processes — not just supporting them
  • Experience managing budgets, financial reporting, or working alongside finance functions
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms, Microsoft 365, and modern business systems
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of completing complex initiatives on time
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication — you can write a clear policy and present a clean dashboard
  • Experience managing at least one direct report
  • Comfortable with ambiguity; energized by building rather than inheriting

Preferred
  • Experience in professional sports, college athletics, entertainment, hospitality, or live events
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, sponsorship platforms, or sports business operations
  • Experience in a startup, entrepreneurial, or organizational build phase
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Sports Management, Organizational Leadership, or related field

What Success Looks Like — Year One
  • The GM has a trusted operational partner and spends significantly less time on administrative execution
  • Financial reporting, budget tracking, and ownership dashboards are accurate and on time, every time
  • CRM data is clean, adopted across departments, and generating actionable reporting
  • HR processes — hiring, onboarding, compliance — run consistently and professionally
  • Cross-departmental communication is stronger and fewer things fall through the cracks
  • The 2027 home match season is executed smoothly from an operational standpoint
