    The Ardsley School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered individual to serve as Modified Girls Volleyball Coach. This position is ideal for a coach who is passionate about introducing and developing fundamental skills while creating a positive and inclusive first interscholastic athletic experience for student-athletes.

     

    At the modified level, the focus is on participation, skill development, teamwork, and fostering a lifelong appreciation for physical activity, competition, and athletics. The coach will play a key role in building foundational skills and establishing expectations that support future success within the volleyball program.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Knowledge of volleyball fundamentals, rules, and basic game strategies
    • Previous coaching or playing experience preferred, especially with middle school-aged students
    • Ability to teach and engage beginner to intermediate-level student-athletes
    • Strong communication, organization, and management skills
    • Enthusiasm and a commitment to student-athlete development
    • Interested candidates should possess or be willing to obtain the necessary coaching certification requirements from NYSED.

     

    POSITION SUMMARY:

     

    The Modified Volleyball Coach is responsible for creating a supportive and structured environment where student-athletes can learn the basic skills, rules, and expectations of volleyball. The coach will emphasize participation, development, and sportsmanship while preparing athletes for advancement within the program.

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

     

    Instruction & Skill Development

     

    • Teach fundamental volleyball skills including serving, passing, setting, hitting, and basic rotations
    • Plan and conduct developmentally appropriate practices focused on skill progression and game understanding
    • Introduce basic strategies and rules of the game in a clear and engaging manner

     

    Team Management & Supervision

     

    • Supervise student-athletes during all practices, games, and team activities
    • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured team environment

     

    Student-Athlete Experience

     

    • Serve as a positive role model, promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect
    • Support student-athletes in developing confidence, responsibility, and a strong work ethic
    • Reinforce expectations related to academic eligibility, attendance, and conduct

     

    Program Alignment

     

    • Collaborate with upper-level coaches to ensure consistency in skill development and program expectations
    • Support long-term growth of the volleyball program by building a strong developmental foundation

     

    Operations & Compliance

     

    • Adhere to all district policies and regulations set by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), where applicable
    • Follow all procedures related to injuries, medical protocols, and emergency situations

     

    Communication

     

    • Maintain clear and professional communication with student-athletes, families, and school staff
    • Support the mission and expectations of the athletic department
