The Assistant Volleyball Coach reports to the Head Coach and supports all aspects of team operations, including competition, player development, scouting, video analysis, and administrative responsibilities. This role requires exceptional volleyball knowledge, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to build positive relationships with athletes, staff, league personnel, and external partners.
The Assistant Coach plays a key role in practice planning, match preparation, talent evaluation, performance analysis, and fostering a championship culture built on professionalism, accountability, and athlete well-being.
Essential Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will support the Dallas PULSE in developing high-performing professional athletes and achieving sustained competitive success in Major League Volleyball (MLV).

Coaching & Player Development
- Practice Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and executing daily training sessions.
- Lead position-specific training and individual skill development.
- Conduct warm-up, ball control, serving, attacking, blocking, and defensive drills.
- Provide immediate technical feedback during training.
- Assist with the implementation of offensive and defensive systems.
- Reinforce team culture, expectations, and professional standards.
- Help maintain practice tempo and efficiency.
- Support injured athletes with modified training when appropriate.
- Participate in post-practice evaluations with the coaching staff.
- Individual Player Development
- Help develop individualized player development plans.
- Review video and performance data with assigned athletes.
- Conduct one-on-one technical and performance meetings.
- Monitor athlete progress throughout the season.
- Support leadership development and team-building initiatives.
- Encourage accountability, professionalism, and high-performance habits.

- Pre-Match
- Assist with opponent scouting reports.
- Compile and analyze statistical data.
- Review scouting and video materials with players.
- Help develop match strategies and game plans.
- Participate in coaching strategy meetings.
- Provide lineup and tactical recommendations.
- Ensure necessary equipment is available.
- During Matches
- Monitor and track opponent tendencies.
- Chart serving, blocking, and offensive patterns.
- Provide real-time statistical feedback.
- Assist with substitution and match-management strategies.
- Communicate observations and recommendations to the Head Coach.
- Help manage bench organization and team communication.
- Post-Match
- Assist with match statistical and performance reviews.
- Participate in coaching debrief sessions.
- Help prepare post-match video analysis.
- Conduct player feedback and review sessions.
- Contribute to scouting preparation for upcoming opponents.
- Performance Analysis
- Analyze practice and match film.
- Evaluate opponent tendencies and performance trends.
- Produce scouting reports and video edits.
- Maintain and organize the team video database.
- Assist with statistical analysis and reporting.
- Prepare player development clips.
- Monitor league-wide trends and best practices.
- Utilize performance analytics software to support decision-making.
- Present video and analytical findings during staff and team meetings.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of coaching experience at the collegiate, national team, or professional level.
- Professional volleyball coaching experience is highly regarded.
- Experience with video analysis software, including VolleyStation and VolleyMetrics.
