Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Director’s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award. 

Assistant Coach – Women’s Softball

Augustana University (SD) invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach – Women’s Softball. The position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of a competitive collegiate women’s softball program. This includes coaching, recruiting, student-athlete development, academic support, and administrative duties. The position requires a commitment to compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations, as well as fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting daily practices and competition strategies
  • Provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes to enhance performance
  • Assist with identifying, evaluating, and recruiting prospective student-athletes in accordance with governing rules.
  • Build and maintain relationships with recruits, high school/club coaches, and families.
  • Analyze opponent and team performance using video and statistical tools.
  • Support academic success initiatives and assist with monitoring student-athlete progress toward degree completion.
  • Assist with game-day operations, including scouting reports and match preparation.
  • Coordinate team travel, equipment, and scheduling logistics as assigned.
  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Participate in fundraising, alumni engagement, camps, and community outreach activities.
  • Assist with promoting sportsmanship, professionalism, and a positive team environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
  • May be required to serve on committees and special projects.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Sport specific experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum experience as a graduate assistant of assistant coach in a collegiate program.
  • Previous women’s softball collegiate coaching and recruiting experience preferred. Pitching/Hitting coach specialty experience preferred.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain). 
  • Ability to successfully complete the NCAA Annual Coaches Certification Requirement.
  • Experience with video analysis software (i.e., Hudl)
