Primary Duties and
Responsibilities:
 

Under supervision of the head coach, assists with coaching duties for the University’s NCAA Division 1 Softball program in such a manner as to build and maintain a competitive, quality program that reflects positively on the image and reputation of the University at all times.

  • Assists head coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition.
  • Assists the head coach in recruiting activity in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Oversees and coordinates one or more specified areas of a sporting discipline and/or components of a team, as appropriate to the sport being coached.
  • Assists the head coach with various operational and administrative aspects of the program, including but not limited to: coordinating team travel; assisting with institutional camps; coordinating and managing team equipment; and other duties as assigned by the head coach.
  • Represents the sports program to various institutional entities and externally to media, government agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Complies with all NCAA, Conference, University, and Department of Athletics policies.

    • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
    • Demonstrated competitive coaching skills in area of sporting specialty.
    • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes, as well as athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
    • Skilled in evaluating talent in order to recruit players to improve the program
    • Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty to include identifying deficiencies and providing instruction to improve overall skill and performance.
    • Ability to build relationships and work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
    • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to respond to high-pressure situations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
    • Skilled in organizing and coordinating.
    • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
    • Thrives in an environment of teamwork, collaboration, and hard work.
    • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.

       
    Required Education Bachelor's Degree required
       
    Required Experience One to three years’ experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. The ideal candidate will have experience playing and/or coaching highly competitive softball, preferably at the NCAA Division 1 level. Experience in hitting and/or defense preferred.

    The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
