PURPOSE STATEMENT:

To provide knowledge, motivation, and leadership in an activity in which the student can excel to full potential while competing in an atmosphere that adds to total education, including physical well-being, moral character, and social and mental development.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Instruct athletes regarding the techniques, rules, and safety practices of the sport
  • Schedule, organize, and conduct practice in conjunction with the Head Coach
  • Supervises athletes from the scheduled beginning of the practice or game until the last athlete is picked up, knowing where all participants are at all times
  • Supervise athletes on buses on trips to other schools
  • Promotes the entire interscholastic program of the school and directs the program in harmony with the total school program
  • Sets an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct, including respecting and supporting contest officials
  • Fosters among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community
  • Promotes a healthy lifestyle to student-athletes
  • Adheres to all safety laws and district policies
  • Follows the injuries, care, and prevention procedures of the Deer Park School District
  • Reports on injuries to the Head Coach and Athletic Director
  • Recognizes and adheres to any athlete's health plans
  • Communicates with parents in a timely, proactive, and professional manner

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Head Coach/ Athletic Director

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 21 or older for Assistant Coach
  • Must have a current First Aid/CPR certification or be able to acquire it by the start of the season
  • Understand the activity/sport, its safety practices, techniques, rules, and progression of skill development
  • Previous applicable coaching experience preferred
  • Demonstrated successful experience building relationships with players, parents, and the community is required

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude toward students and the ability to motivate them toward developing a successful program
  • Be able to consistently meet schedule responsibilities for practice, coaching preparation, competition, and related activities
  • Ability to plan practices, events, and organize all the necessary materials and people to carry out the activity
  • Ability to develop players toward goals of improved skills, knowledge of the game, leadership, and commitment to the team
  • Ability to work with students, colleagues, parents, and officials in a positive, professional, and equitable manner

Terms of Employment and Salary:

26-27 Stipend: $1,978.00-$3,200.00 per season, depending on experience.
